This one goes out to you, Gravitas. Attempted a cover of a song from before I was born

So, small backstory. Gravitas challenged (well, more like inspired me) me to step out of my comfort zone and make a project of a song that wasn’t too “modern day”. But since I’m 60% lazy, I decided to make it into a cover.

Here’s “Summertime” by Chaka Khan.

  • Brilliant.

    For accuracy's sake.

    Summertime was actually written by
George Gerswhin and became a jazz standard.
    Every jazzer knows this song.
There are millions of different versions.

And yes, you do need to record the vocals in a D.A.W.
It's good discipline to actually do the vocals the
way professionals do it, not that it is the only way.

One day I'll do a version for you as an example.

Haha, thanks for the feedback. Hadn't actually heard the song until that day but it was really interesting to look back at songs from a previous decade.

Agreed in recording clean vocals. I gotta sit down and make a new take of it. Thanks again for the help on the Drambo post.

  • I've got loads of them floating around as well as more modern ones. 😁

Record the vocals clean and when exporting the stem or stems
make sure they're at 44.1kHz and that they start at 0 on the timeline
when exporting and remember the bpm.

This way it avoids any timing issues if and when someone would like to remix it.
It is an obvious thing to do but you would be surprised.

Looking forward to hearing your pro studio version.

No worries at all in regards dRambo. 😁

  • I can relate. If it’s not easy and fun, I can’t get it done. AUM is fun; DAW is no fun.
