@hightunnels Highly imaginative music. Extremely unique- a bit more edgy/dissonant than what I normally would listen to but I found it very engaging. Congratulations on your release!
sounds great! imma give it a good listen later.
what was your main daw or daw like used to arrange this?
Thanks!
Thanks--most of the tracks were composed/sequenced using Poly 2 in either AUM/Xequence or NS2. A few were AUM with Rozeta doing the sequencing. Some overdubs in AUM--Samplr, Spacecraft, Borderlands etc. Everything bounced down to audio then mixed and mastered in Auria Pro
Oh, shoutout to @SpookyZoo for helping me sort out the Poly 2 Midi/Xequence setup!
I like it
Thanks!
Excellent and challenging! Fine production values. Beautiful ninth track. Expect the unexpected!
Thanks-that means a lot coming from you! Been wanting to explore the piano improv method you’ve talked about at some point
Cool stuff, glad it worked out for you.
Congrats on the release. I'll be giving it a spin this evening.
Listening to track 9 now, after seeing the Lineman's recommendation, and I love it. Will definitely check out the others 👍👍
Hit me up for app details you say... Very well!:
Just listened to a few intros of other tracks. Definitely seeing some Warp Records influences here. I like the rhythmic quality of some of the synth lines. My questions would be:
What are your techniques for doing this kind of morphing between melody and rhythm?
And what are you using do do the actual drums/percussion tracks?
Cheers!
Hi Gavinski--thanks for listening and the questions!
I'm a huge Autechre fan so that could be some of the Warp influence you're hearing (and Boards of Canada and Aphex of course!)
I often will make "sample chains" of a bunch of different C notes, usually from one synth, and then randomize the playback point in whatever sampler I'm using--so many good happy rhythmic and textural accidents happen doing this!
The track "Sorghum Sudan" that you and @LinearLineman referenced, uses a sample of several Animoog patches, pretty sure I put it in Obsidian and played with the playback position although you could certainly do the same in Spacecraft or Segments or whatever. Like I said I used Poly 2 a lot as a sequencer and you can send a midi cc changing the sample playback position.
Again I used Poly 2 a lot for percussion--sometimes sent to maybe several slate kits (or sliced up segments files), one with a bunch of kicks, one with hats, snare etc. where each Poly channnel has a random note sequence which again comes up with lots of cool rhythms and textural combinations. As far as actual sounds, Fractal Bits, Ruismaker Noir both got a lot of use, as well as lots of random samples I've accumulated over time. Oh also Patterning--I think one of the tracks "Ultrasound For Dessert" was completely done in Patterning and recorded multi channel out into AUM. (Mixed in Auria)
Hope all that makes sense--thanks again for the feedback, I'm a big fan of your tutorials by the way!
Great to hear! Thanks for the exhaustive detail here, I haven't thought of using samples in this way before, sounds like a great tip.
I'll be having a tutorial coming out shortly that will be of definite interest to Boards of Canada fans btw!
that’s awesome man i love poly 2!
it really does some unique sequencing to au synths and can do great things with samples. flows great in aum. do you ever mess around with koala for resampling? i’ve been doing that a lot recently, taking audio sequences/ phrases and dubbing then over onto pads to play out
I def need to revisit Koala--I do love the fx, in fact on several tracks I loaded up a bunch of the Koala au fx units in Auria just to mess around with quick fx ideas and it worked out great, very low cpu hit...
