AUM Noob Questions

Hi All,

I have started to experiment with AUM and have some questions.

  1. I have seen other people run multiple instances of synthesizers, on multiple tracks/channels/faders (I don’t know what they are called) but when I tried it with synth master player it would not work. The second instance of Synth Master player was grayed out. I tried this again with iM1 and that was the same. What am I doing wrong here?

  2. My patches are not recalled on some synths when I reload an AUM session. I have Poison-202 on one channel with a synth bass and D1 on second channel with a picked bass. I save the session in AUM but when I reload it, Poison-202 Loads with the correct patch but D1 does not, it is some default sound and I have to manually go into D1 And select the correct patch each time. This also happened with Korg MonoPoly except I forgot what the original patch was and it is now just an Init patch. Is there a way to fix this?

Thank you all for your time and knowledge

The first thing you need to understand is the difference between IAA/Standalone apps and AUv3 apps. IAA/Standalone apps can only have one instance and they don't save their parameters with the AUM session. AUv3 apps do save their settings (unless they have state saving bugs, though that is rare.).

Some apps offer both IAA and AUv3 versions. Pick the AUv3 version to get multiple instances and state-saving. A few (very few) apps such as L7 looper will only let you run one AUv3 instance. But that's rare.

I'm guessing you loaded the IAA version of D1 and Synthmaster Player.

One other note: some AUv3 apps load the all the parameters with a session, but don't reload a preset name. This makes some sense if you think about it. You might have loaded a preset, then made changes, then saved the session. When the session restores, you aren't really loading that preset, since it's been changed. Apps vary in how they handle this, but the point is not to assume the state wasn't restored just because the preset name last used isn't reflected.

You can only run multiple instances of AUv3. iM-1 is not an AU. So, you can only run one. IAA (stand-alone apps) don’t do state-saving when used with something like AUM. The Korg apps are IAA. So, their state is not saved in an AUM document.

Are you loading D1as an AU or IAA?

  • That answers that!

I was running D1 as an IAA.

I have been using a mix of IAA and AUV3.

I guess I just have some favorite IAA like iM1 and I just want more of them :)

I also like to use NanoStudio2 as an instrument in AUM just because I like the sounds of the synth. I do have to open it in AUM and then go to NanoStudio2 and select my saved session

    Thank you.
