TB Spectrogram by Toneboosters, released (free)
https://apps.apple.com/app/id1530170842
Description:
ToneBoosters Spectrogram shows a real-time spectrogram of the incoming audio signal! We have taken the spectrogram feature from our latest and greatest dynamics compressor plugin and released it as a separate app / AUv3 plugin!
Check out our dynamics Compressor plug-in with zone compression and external side chain support here:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tb-compressor/id1517791397
The ToneBoosters Spectrogram app captures the microphone input and processes the signals in real time. To use it as a plug-in, use an AUv3-compatible host app such as Steinberg Cubasis, Apple Garageband, Audio Evolution Mobile Studio, Auria, AUM, or others. ToneBoosters Spectrogram will appear in the list of Audio Unit extensions for effect plug-ins.
Key features:
- Start/pause button
- Variable sensitivity to adjust and improve visuals
- Fully resizable (as AUv3 plugin)
- Color themes for the user interface
- Max screen support in Garageband
- Legacy Inter-App Audio (IAA) support
- Optimised for iPad and compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch
What you should know:
- Inter-App Audio (IAA) can only use one instance of this app simultaneously. We recommend to use an AUv3 host to use multiple instances.
- Audio Unit extensions require an iPad mini 2, iPad 4 or later models.

Freebie? Cool thanks @DJB
Looks nice, wonder if it offers any alternate frequency scaling modes, cross hair/selection tool to zoom in on a section etc?
Yes
First version is out now!

Ace. Harp track. Now I need to learn how to read these musical tea leaves. Thanks @DJB
Would've been an instabuy if it weren't free. This is awesome!
Thank you!
great freebee:)
thanks!
One more for my Tonebooster collection.
You guys are awesome! Thank you.
Me again!
Anybody can tell me how to read this shroud of Turin?
👍
It's spectrum analysis with time variation. Time horizontal, frequency vertical, brightness represents amplitude. Play a note on piano or guitar and see how overtones fade over time. You need to work up to it using your own instruments. Then you can use it to analyze other content.
@rud it’s easy:
Excellent! Thank you.
one teensy request: would be lovely to have a level meter somewhere, too: even if it were just a row or column of narrow “LEDs” at the side or top of the display area.
Awesome, thanks!
That piano keyboard is extremely helpful too, especially when hovering the spectrogram!
Very nice, thanks...:) On iphone too
Ok I get it. What is it useful for practically?
The plugin aliasing police must be happy with this! :-)
Wow so cool. Thank you TB, I love all your stuff. Cheers @DJB
Doug from the sound test room shows you how to read a Spectrogram when he reviews blue mangoo oscilloscope and spectrogram.
Actually that might be a feature only in that app. But you can use a frequency chart.
It has a keyboard on the side so touch the spectrogram at the brightest spots to see the corresponding notes. Cheers.
Useful for visualizing the frequency content of the audio stream. It can be useful for seeing what frequencies need taming or help you see how a plugin is impacting the audio. For instance, I was curious to see how two different amp models were affecting the the signal.
@DJB Nice 'Freebie' but please do consider adding the option to show the note name together with the frequency pop-up when swiping across the spectrum. The 'keyboard' is just too tiny to be readable on the iPhone 8's screen.
(Very few apps are 'well adapted' for smaller screens despite being 'universal').
Another option would be to add vertical zoom to be able to focus on a more specific area of the frequency spectrum?![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
This could be especially handy when the screen update is paused and one goes on a 'frequency/note hunt'
I'll let these two 'grow' for a while but I do feel they make sense and would not be too hard to implement...
Cheers!
This looks like it could easily get MIDI out.

@DJB what do you think about making this freebie open source so all the feature requesters can join development and add their dream features?
Thank you @DJB !
Wouldn't that expose their UI code that they may not want falling into other developers hands?
