Gain Plugin/Auv3

Can anyone recommend a gain plugin for use on BM3 audio tracks? They don’t have individual volume/input control, only the mixer fader for output. I know these plugins exist for desktop, but I can’t find a dedicated one for iOS.

Great question. I’m hitting the star ⭐️ on this one.

  • You can take the eq and push it up. Or get a limiter.

  • @stormywaterz i have the built in limiter, barricade and I think the amazing noises or audio damage one. I was thinking of along the lines of your suggestion and using one of them or a compressor or eq with all parameters at 0 or bypassed so I count use their output gain, but I was hoping there was something dedicated for this purpose that wouldn’t effect the sound in any other way than just gain. Afraid an eq or limiter even no parameters engaged might not be as transparent as a dedicated gain plugin. TB has all kinds of sneaky stuff in their plugs, so if this app doesn’t exist, I’ll dig through their collection to see if they have a preset for it like they have for just about everything else. @ipadbeatmaking a lot of the tutorials I’ve watched from great mixing engineers show them using such a plugin even though they have crazy intricate desktop daws, figured there must be something to it especially since BM3 doesn’t even have built in gain for audio.

  • Yah I think the BM3 saturator with amount set to zero should give minimal memory/cpu overhead and let you adjust the gain just fine.

  • @AudioGus I was hoping for something specific like this, like which plugin should I use in absence of dedicated. Saturator sounds like a great option.

  • @Lil_Stu07 thanks for the link. I’ve watched a few tutorials on gainstaging and I gnstage as I go, but BM3 doesn’t have input gain on recorded audio tracks unless I’m missing something. Also doesn’t have a prefader channel strip unless I were to insert an external (concerned about cpu usage don’t have the best iPad). Audio tracks only have the mixer fader for volume control. I’ve already recorded vocals in dry and wanted to adjust input gain pre-fader. Pretty sure @audiogus’s suggestion to use native Saturator Fx will suit that need without affecting cpu too much.

You could also use the built-in dynamics processor set to to not trigger and add makeup gain. Or if you have transparent compressor like Blue Mangoo’s, you could do the same thing.

@king_picadillo : don’t know if this is what you have in mind, but I’ve used it a few times for apps which in context with others just don’t have enough oomph: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/jax-make-louder-audio-unit/id1474614677

  • @espiegel123 thanks sir, I’m about to start a quick mix session and I’ll try the Saturator and the dynamics processor to see which one is more intuitive for my needs. I don’t have the blue mangoo comp, I only have tb comp and korvpressor. @Svetlovska thanks, I’ll look at that but sounds like it’s more for giving loudness to tracks. I’m looking for
Something that I can use to turn up or down audio track volume because BM3 doesn’t have that ability. You can gain adjust synths, banks, samples, but audio tracks you need to add a plugin that allows you to control volume before it hits the mixer. Weird oversight, but BM3 is the daw I learned.

  • Ape matrix comes the handy little Gain Pan AUv3 for free. It can be used in any AUv3 host.

  • Thanks @wim I’ll look into that.

  • looking like using the output gain knob of the built in compressor set to 1:1 or saturation plug will do the trick and not burden the cpu. Neither seem to color the sound. Ape Matrix has exactly what I’m looking for like @wim suggested, but I’ll use the workaround until it goes on sale. Seems wasteful to buy a complex app for the one feature I need when suggestions here lead me to the end I was seeking. Thanks everyone.

  • Maybe Maze Rider could help you with your gain staging.

  • @ecou thanks, I got it when it was free So I’m stoked, watched the one tutorial I could find last night. Seems pretty easy. The first 8 bars of verse 1 are a bit louder than the rest even after compression and eq so this should help. Pretty simple but sophisticated plugin for iOS.

Maybe you can explain it to me when you get it working 😜😜

  • AUM built in gain as well
