Wavestate - one Synth, one patch and a great Berlin School / Ambient Performance
I’m a true lover of Berlin School and Ambient music!
What you can do with just the Korg Wavestate and a single Patch you can see here.
This is a absolutely brilliant performance which shows how powerful and unique this Synthesizer is.
This guy is playing and tweaking the Wavestate for more than 30 minutes, live!
All you can hear is just one patch and the music is continuous evolving...
I really love it, that’s why i want to share it with you! 🎶 👍 😊
Have a look if you own a WS or you like Berlin School or if you are in the market for the Wavestate.
It’s very inspiring...
Many Greetings from Berlin! 😊
//edit
By the way, can I do something similar with Drambo?
Comments
That was very very cool. I guess that makes me a disciple of the Berlin School too. (I’m supposedly half German). I apparently already subscribed to his channel.
@chandroji Beautiful! I also considered the Wavestate but bought a Waldorf Iridium(made for Berlin school....) to companion my Hydrasynth Keyboard. Do you know if there are there plans for a desktop module of the Wavestate?
Yes you can.
This is how I would go about it (just one of 50 ways):
Creating sample sets for the sampler is probably the most laborious task.
You're rewarded with 64 different instruments playable at the same time though 😇
The incredible sample set of the Wavestate is one reason why I won't sell that pearl soon 😎
Drambo is better if you want to use your own samples. Mr. Wavestate has never heard of sample import...
Im not even sure if would normally subscribe to a wavestate focused channel. But this was so good, I did! This is driving me back to the old days of firing up MidiSequencer and Yonac's Midi Synth (later Quantum and Magellan)
@hypnopad , @senhorlampada
Happy you like this performance! 😊
I know it’s quite long (39 minutes) but I enjoyed the video till the end. Funny that you both subscribed to his channel... 👍
We are in the same boat @Pierre118 !
I considered the Hydrasynth to companion my Wavestate but bought the Iridium instead... 😊
I believe this is a Dream Team for Ambient and Berlin School. Couldn’t be happier with them. Both Synthesizer are specialists for atmospheric and interesting soundscapes. 👍
Greetings!
P.S.
@rs2000
Thanks a lot my friend!
Last time I’ve experimenting with Drambo was 6 month ago. I think in the meantime many new Moduls released by the fellow forum members.
I need to revisit Drambo to find out more.
Where I can find the new stuff for Drambo?
I forgot, sorry... 😎
@chandroji You have a great combination of synthesizers, a perfect match! I hope Korg will bring a desktop version of the Wavestate, would be a non-brainer. For me the advantage of the Hydrasynth keyboard is the PolyAT support and the glide ribbon, it gives so much more modulation possibilities.
But the GAS never sleeps, always lurking around the corner. Very dangerous according my wife.........
@chandroji
They're here: https://patchstorage.com/platform/drambo/
223 uploads for Drambo since April 1st this year. Imagine!
None of them covers what the Wavestate does, this has yet to be built - but you already own one so have fun exploring the cool projects anyway! 🤗
This is I would like to see attempted in Drambo.
Why not do it yourself? It's no rocket science.
Pretty simple: time. Someday!
The 'Wave Sequences' will be an exercise in pain to create in Drambo without an 'indexed sample pool'.
It's a lot easier to do with a regular tracker like Renoise or SunVox. Create a Phrase Sequence (Renoise) or Meta Module (SunVox) with Row 1 sample 1, row 2 sample 2 etc. if crossfading is needed use two tracks with volume automation, this can then be played as a polyphonic instrument.
The advantage to WaveState here is that it already has an insame pool of indexed samples and waveforms that can easily be accessed by the Wave Sequences...
@chandroji
Excellent work. I'd like to hear more of your stuff.
Thanks for the flowers! @ExAsperis99 !
But this is not my work! Sorry for confusion...
I stumbled over this video because of my interest in the Wavestate.
I hope the day will come when I present my own music here. But it will take some time.
I’m very shy, when it comes to my music that’s why I never published any of my music. 😎
With my photography it’s a different story... 😊
But I agree, it’s an excellent work! I love it too!
Greetings!
Here is another video from the same guy, his name is TØNSBERG
A jam with a custom patch on the Wavestate - 4 arpeggiators, one for each layer, fading in and out, with some sound tweaking throughout the jam.
Enjoy... 😊
Exactly right. I am trying to figure out why a dev hasn't figured this out because there is a relatively simple app idea that could be popular. And that is, I fill a bunch of folders with all my samples and waveforms--some percussion, some leads, some keys, some whatever. And then the app randomly pulls from the folders I specify into a bank of 16 sounds. Extra points for having, say, four lanes and being able to randomize from a single folder for each lane (a la Wavestation/Wavestate). I've been talking to @4Pockets about this for EvolverFX. In my mind, this would take that app from "pretty dang good" to "alrighty, now we are really cooking!"
Ah, I read too quickly. Well, thank you for finding the video! And please don't be shy about your music!
Nice picture. It’s not every day you see Keith Richards’ mother tuning her bass.
Why do these videos with wavestate and iridium sound so much better than anything in iOS? Not that iOS sounds bad, but these two synths just seem to pop out of the speakers by comparison.
I wouldn't say better than anything on iOS, we have excellent synths on iOS as well but indeed, the samples in the Wavestate are first class. I'm very critical with synths yet the day I received the guy, the first hour playing it I couldn't get that fat grin off my face.
Not to get all John Cleese Argument Clinic on you, but what on iOS pops like these synths do? I have all the good ones; none of them pop like this.
You're right, this is not an argument. Not at all 😁
Well, it's not so much what synths you use but how you use them.
If you want the sounds to pop out like this, you better design your own sounds.
I would start with Gadget hosting iWavestation, iMonoPoly, Marseille and Stockholm, the first plucky sound in the vid with delay and reverb can be done with iMonoPoly alone for example.
I would source the more advanced PCM sequences from iWavestation, Stockholm and Marseille plus Pure Synth Platinum and AudioLayer for the natural instruments (using the MIDI out module in Gadget).
There are other possible approaches though if you get a bit creative.
Find AUv3 synths that can switch presets without delay (Phasemaker, Viking etc.) or if you want to dive deep, automate a few prominent synth parameters from your DAW. Also use a wavetable synth like Ekectribe Wave and modulate the WT position using its beat-synced, stepped random LFO plus the second LFO for shaping the amp or filter cutoff.
Don't want to spend the time to go exploring your own apps?
No problem, the Wavestate is back in stock now 😋
One of its things, yes. Korg must have created these presets to feed the Wavestation die-hards.
The machine is not at all limited to only these. If you want orchestral or incredible, evolving synth pads, the little plastic box can do it too, and very well.
I’d love a Wavestate, could see myself exploring the deep engine for years without feeling restricted. Creating crazy polyrhythmic stuff. It’s one of those synth you’d think about what to experiment with next time you’ll use it.
For me it’s not about it sounding better than iOS (or anything else) but the hands-on control over the lanes, etc, that’s attracting.
But since I don’t have a hardware studio anymore and also no PC/Mac to update the Wavestate I’ll probably won’t get one.. unless Korg add the option to update through iOS
I’m waiting for Korg to add the option to update from Windows 10
>
Just update your Wavestate with any computer you can find. Probably a friend will help if needed. There are always ways... 😊
I’ve updated but the librarian is on my Windows 10 machine and it’s a no go with the drivers at the moment. Still the Wavestate has an immense amount of dynamic memory to save patches
By the way...
Is somebody here on Facebook?
This Berlin School Patch is available for download via a Facebook group.
I’m not on Facebook so I have no access to this group. I would be very happy if someone can send me this patch if possible?
That would be more than great! 🙏👍😊
Is it true that the EvolverFX app is Wavestate in iOS app form? I’d love to hear some better demos of that app.
