How To Connect The Steinberg UR22 Mk 2 Audio Interface To Your iPad

The UR22 Mk 2 is a good and solid Audio Interface that works great with the iPad or iPhone.
It's also cool that has midi too.
Be aware though that there are two versions of the UR22, it's the UR22 Mk 2 that you need for the iPad or iPhone because it is class compliant, whereas the original UR22 was not.

  • Doug, it would be very awesome if you could test and evaluate various interfaces for your favorite features and sound quality (I trust your ears).
I realize it might be difficult to do. Thanks for this one!

Does this still work if you’re in the US and the interface is in Istanbul?

  • @TheOriginalPaulB and @NoiseHorse, my story really seems to have captured your imaginations. Let me add to the fire... I almost left my balls in Istanbul as well!😳😉😘

@thesoundtestroom, will the UR12 work on the iPad? Are the preamps the same?

@LinearLineman - The preamps are in the hardware and aren't dependent on what it's connected to in any way.

Drivers for Windows are here: https://www.steinberg.net/en/support/downloads_hardware/yamaha_steinberg_usb_driver.html

[edit - oops, I misread your post. the UR12 will work on the iPad and the preamps will be the same]

What are the odds that @thesoundtestroom will do a video on audio interfaces just when the @LinearLineman gets a PC? The Presonus USB interface also gets you a free copy of a complete DAW. But the Steinberg probably also has some software included. The Behringer is probably the cheapest and is usually as good if not better but might not have any software attached.

Can anyone with a PC provide advice that covers quality, software and ease of installation on a Windows PC?

    OT! OT! OT! sorry...

  • @McD The only Audio Interface I use for the PC is the AudioFuse, tons of software, super simple to set up thanks to Arturias Midi Control Center, plus it has a button on the Fuse that just opens up the Software interface for the AudioFuse automatically for you, it’s also a three port USB Hub, has midi in and out and connections for everything including ADAT, also works perfectly with the iPad.
I use the Steinberg when I’m making a desktop VST demo, I like to record all my audio from the PC into Cubasis, plus it gives me much more control over recording the vocal track, I put the mic into channel one of the Fuse, but route it’s audio into the into the Steinberg along with the PC Audio, this works really well because the AudioFuse can also act on its own as a mixer, you can actually use it just to mix without it been plugged into either the PC or the iPad.
It’s a really solid and well thought out interface and is continually updated, updating is a piece of cake, as soon as you plug it into the PC, you can launch the Midi Control Center and if there is an update it will tell you and you can then just update it from there.

  • I'd give a vote for the AudioFuse as well. Works nicely with Windows, OS X, Linux and iOS. Great gain on the preamps too.
