Behringer pro 800
I might actually get this. Under $600 for a real 8 note analogue poly

If you can’t get the real thing, why not just get these instead of wasting so much cash on a behringer?

Thanks jocphone. I was trying to do that but I was on my phone and it wouldn't allow it.
No worries. It can be a bit of a chore doing normal computer stuff on a phone.
One can argue that buying apps is a waste of money. These you can buy cheap, keep if you like it or resell.
Here is what a Pro 600 sounds like
Once a new romantic, these days an old romantic
They are now available for pre-order in the UK.
Great news! Where are can I pre order?
Cheers
Just found it on Andertons for £369! That is insanely cheap!
It is.
Very nice.
I’m so relieved! A synth I don’t want to buy!
Still thinking about getting a Neutron
yes its also on thomann, according to the gearspace thread, andertons has about 50K of pre-orders. 🤯
meaning around september there will be many 2nd-Hand ones.
because many will buy just to have it first 🤣
I spent most of the plague really wanting one of these
I wanted to replace my Oberheim Matrix 1000 units (I don’t need three of them, I probably don’t need any of them, once I’ve fixed the one with a hum I’ll probably sell all three)
But in the end I gradually started replacing where I’d used the Matrix 1000 with sounds that do the same job from my Korg OpSix, so I’ll probably stick with that, now that the long sought Pro 800 is out
Lol
What synths have you succumbed to buying?
Yes 50,000 pre-orders, that’s insane, most synths don’t sell in those quantities during a lifetime run, let alone pre-orders.
i like the price on this one but i definitely wait until people have actually used them to check on issues. rev 2 of these synths is usually the best option.
although i guess you can aways send it back to the seller within 30 days. i will be looking forward to the pro 16 with MPE.
Also part of the reason I bought the Roland J-6 is to do some of the sort of things I’d be doing with this, as I couldn’t be arsed waiting for the Pro-800 in the end – the end result is going to be similar in a lot of ways
If I want something hands-on tweakable that’s more than the J-6 my iPad is stuffed full of good polysynths I never use but should
I love mine, added the 2600 and now its a very versatile package
@audiblevideo : most recently, Roland TB3, TR8, Lyra 8 and BARP. As I can’t play anything, polysynths are wasted on me. Mono and modular-friendly is plenty good enough for my purposes, a good fit for my Neutron, Moog Sound Studio and the modular rack.
But with this one a keyboard is optional.
Too expensive. I'll wait for the Donner version
@knewspeak : Polysynths? Clue’s in the name. It’s not the keyboard that is the issue. I don’t know, and can’t play, chords, so polyphony is a mystery to me.
What I like to do with synths is twiddle knobs and make weird noises with them, the weirder and more clangorous the better. The BARP, Moogs and Neutron are perfect for that.
Poly synths are for proper musicians, keyboard players, people in, yuck bands, in my book.
Also, those ensemble/synth strings/ 80s pop hit tones that they are so good at leave me cold.
My preferred 80s was less Duran Duran and more Foetus, Fad Gadget, Suicide, The Normal, John Foxx and Deutsche Amerikanische Freundschaft. That is, minimal, tough, and weird, exemplified by D.A.F.’s signature sound, an SQ10 sequencer and an MS20 (plus, sometimes, the odd duophonic ARP Odyssey line), just that, rocking a super hard, super minimal real kit backing on tracks like their classic, Der Mussolini. Tough, basic. None of yer fancy polyphony here:
Or here:
(Released 1977 (!) but I didn’t find it till the 80s)
Or here:
Chords? We don’t need no stinking chords!
As I can’t play anything, polysynths are wasted on me. Mono and modular-friendly is plenty good enough for my purposes, a good fit for my Neutron, Moog Sound Studio and the modular rack.
I love this statement, well put !!
Saw him in the 80's - quite mad on stage was old Frank - vaguelly remember him cutting his head open on a syndrum...
but yeah, all that stuff is why I bought then (and still have) an MS20.
Lol. I just saw Duran Duran in Manchester yesterday evening and they were great. 😂
Oh man, very tempting
Oh well, didn’t last long…
