midi pitch shift app
is there an amp that can take a midi note played on a keyboard and ramp that pitch up or down. i’d love to press a piano key on my midi controller and hear the pitch of my synth slowly climb up of slowly climb down
Comments
Do you mean by notes (MIDI note on/off messages) or continuously (MIDI pitch bend)?
Could you just set a wide pitch bend range in the synth?
yes, a continuous pitch bend. some thing i could put between and arppegiator and a synth and have the pitch ramp up
You don’t need to use midi or an extra app for this at all. Just route an ADSR envelope (Or AD envelope) to your synth’s pitch.
For rising pitch set attack and sustain to 0. Adjust decay to taste and set the envelope mod depth / amount to NEGATIVE.
For falling pitch just use a positive mod depth.
If you use the attack for pitch then the pitch is going to move away from the intended / played note, so that’s why decay is used instead. Ex: A0 D78 S0 R0
Also any synth that has a glide, or portamento setting will support this, so long as your gate length is set to 1
true, I was just curious to see if it could be done via midi
thats portamento (or glide) what synth you using?
actually several apps and samplers, that’s why i’m trying to do it with midi, so i do t have to setup every synth individual. i just wanna send one climbing or falling pitch note to all of them
You could write a script to do this in Mozaic.
this sounds like something for @wim but I would try Rozeta Lfo->anysynths OSC tune
Polyphony could be a problem. Pitch bend affects all notes. If only one note is played at a time it would be OK to start the pitch bend at zero when the note starts, and then snap it back to zero when the note is let go. But even that would have problems if there was any release time on the note. When you let go the key, if the note was still fading out, you'd get a weird change in pitch.
If notes overlapped then you'd have an even harder time knowing how to handle pitch bend. If note 1 was playing and was in its ramp-up time, then you hit another note, the 2nd note would have to start playing pitched up. Then you'd have to decide when to release the pitch bend. After the first note is released? The second note would snap back down to zero pitch bend suddenly. After there's no more open notes maybe?
This sounds like a bad thing to try to do with midi. MPE maybe, but midi, not so much.
