Digitone + AUM / any live mastering routing setups / tips?

Hi all,

I am running a Digitone through AUM for live performance recording.

Does anyone have any recommends for a nice mastering setup to run the feed through? I want the live performance to sound good after I press STOP, so I guess I'm after recommends for compressor / EQ / etc. While at the same time avoiding changing the sound of the Digitone too much!

I have a few different effects apps but I can't decide what to use. I'm tempted to bypass altogether, record clean and then apply some mastering to it in something like Ableton. I just want to avoid DAWs.

Or maybe I need something like Final Touch?

You should record clean anyway, so that you can always save unmastered versions of your tracks.

@jameslondon74 AUM uses Apples built in AUs (limiter eq etc) they are fine for rough work. If you want the best, there is only 1 option. Forget the rest. Really.

I use the fabifilter bundle all the time with Digitakt + Octatrack + Ipad

Fabfilter is only iPadOS.

Not iOS, so not an option if you’re on iPhone

Do you? So what's your setup? Do you record your performances straight into your iPad through the fab filter? What then? Be great to know your workflow, thanks.

@jolico true ! @jameslondon74 i usually record everything from the Octatrack into a Zoom H6. It's been working pretty well for me. The Octatrack has a chanel mixer. But since i got the ipad, i also record Digitakt and whatever apps in AUM, through different Fx. On the master, i have the fabilter Q3, The comp C2, The L2, depends ... very simple to set up and works like a charm. A good way is also to record the Octatrack inside the Zoom, the Digitakt and apps in AUM, then mix at home if needed, etc

I guess I need to read up on final mastering techniques and create my own little bespoke live mastering channel. I just want to make sure the levels are correct, with the highs and lows nicely balanced. Happy to leave off the EQ, etc. So it's probably just a compressor/limiter/expander?

basic strip with separate monitoring, I use it all the time, you record on the non bus and pipe the sound for monitor with mono switch if needed

EQ is probably the most important part of the chain.

@jameslondon74 don't let the EQ out of it , it's a key tool
