Best app to even out spoken podcast vocals?
Because of the Coronavirus, I’m teaching my intro-level Shakespeare class via podcast. After some experimenting, I’ve settled on the following:
- Track vocals with a USB condenser mic, pop filter into Ferrite. (This worked better than SM58 into a mixer into Focusrite interface, though that signal chain was acceptable too.)
- Bookmark anticipated edits while tracking in Ferrite.
- Fix bookmarked problems in Ferrite. (Ferrite really is the best tool for this.)
- Export edited vocal track to Cubasis, where I add music and effects.
- Export normalized mixdown to Twisted Wave, where I convert the finished track to mono and export to MP3.
My question: what’s the best app to even out the volume of my vocals after primary tracking in Ferrite? Currently I’m using Ferrite’s built-in auto leveling, which works and is pretty transparent. What I’m looking for is something with a good, reliable preset.
Main candidate so far: FAC Maxima. I don’t mind spending more for the right tool. I’m sure there are several apps that could do what I want if I knew how to work them, but I’m working to a deadline. I have about 10 episodes in the can, but I need to write and produce 15 more in the next 6 weeks, so I’m looking for a turnkey solution. I’m not frustrated with Ferrite’s auto-leveling, but if I can get better results for the price of an app, I want to. I did experiment with AUFX Push, but didn’t feel like I was getting anywhere. (Not blaming the app, mind you.)

You could just use the built in compressor in cubasis for this. A compressor is the perfect tool for the job.
any comp or limiter. dunno but +3db gain input and minus 3 output with attack 125 ish and release 60 ish
This one’s really good and light on resources.

How about Maze rider.

What is the deal with that thing. Does the developer even know the price? The retail fluctuates by 50% on a regular basis as does the sale price. Last sale shows retail of 7.99 and sale price of 5.99.
Price variation is a way to attract attention to your product on many places such as website like Appsliced. Dev do whatever they can to get sales.
I'm talking about the retail price. Never seen an app fluctuate the retail price like Maze.
It needs a “Price Rider”
Seriously though, it doesn’t seem very reliable. Even before iOS14, it sometimes acted weird and unstable.
I deleted it, so I don’t know if it was updated and fixed since then.
