question about NuRack soundfont player

How do I call up specific presets within a loaded soundfont using program change numbers?

Sorry, you can't. The only automation for that one is output level.
[edit ... wait. I think I was wrong. Gimme a minute.]

Are you working with the standalone or the AUv3?

I can't get it to work. I see two ways to do it, but no results.

    1. Go to edit, then interface builder mode, tap on the Presets selector, then options > MIDI Mapping and midi learn.
      or
    2. Use AUM AU parameter automation. With Advanced parameter automation mode enabled in nuRack settings, the parameters show with their names. Navigate to the Soundfont player > Presets parameter and midi-learn.

Both ways set up fine, but do nothing. I will email support @ 4pockets.com. I suggest you do too.

btw, are you able to load your own sound fonts? On my iPad, .sf2 files are greyed out when I try.

    ( @4Pockets ... you out there anywhere? )

Yes, no problem loading my own soundfonts. If a file is grayed out that means it's not downloaded onto your iPad (at least that was the case for me). I have soundfont files on my google drive. I find the one I want to load, select "open in", Save To Files, then save it to iCloud Drive-->Downloads

Thanks, but no that's not the issue. It doesn't matter if they're on local storage, cloud, etc, and they're all files that I can load into BS-16i and the SoundFonts app.

I'm suspicious that it may have something to do with Zenbeats. I know that it has screwed up access to .sfz files for another forum member. I'm going to try uninstalling it as a test, provided I can back up my projects, which I think I can do.

  • I find that the soundfont player can load sf2 files up to about 25 MB, but fails to load files of 30 MB or larger. My files are stored locally in FE File Explorer Pro, accessed by Nurack via the "Files" interface.

Also, in either AB3 or AUM, I can only load the AU app as an effect, so there's no way to direct MIDI input to it. I believe the app needs to identify as aumu instrument, so it can be loaded as a normal music source. Works and plays fine stand-alone.

Ahh. Maybe that's it. Off to test ...
    Nope. Still the same.

  • @wim Thanks for suggesting loading Nurack MIDI FX as an AU audio effect; no problem then feeding MIDI input in AB3.

Another sf2 oddity: file FS-Gibson-Les-Paul-I5-HedSound.sf2 (from Flame Studios loads without complaint, but reports that there are no presets. I believe it has some sort of hierarchical stucture, but it works in the SoundFonts app, so it's no too strange.

Do you have a reliable email link for 4Pockets? The support link in the app store takes me to kal-group.com, with no support link.

    support (at) 4Pockets.com (official)
Paul (at) kal-group.com (not sure if he likes this one being published, but Gavinski has already in another thread so ...)

Sometimes he's good about responding and others it's a black hole.

  • I’ve delved deep into NuRack but sadly, not yet the sound font player. If you find 4pockets page on Facebook and message Paul there he does reply - he’s very helpful and a great guy.

  • Paul responded: "You can't actually select instruments via MIDI (yet) It may well be problematic if you attempt this during a performance mind you as loading is time consuming. The currently selected preset is saved with the song preset and saved session"
