Do what I do. Shreddage 1 is available to purchase in SFZ format. Buy it and use it in AudioLayer.
Aha, that's not a bad idea at all! How does Shreddage 1 sound for leads?
Most of the S1 demos on the site focus way less on leads and more on chugging chords and rhythm guitar.
Just bought it, going to have a play tonight but the samples are dry (which for me is a good thing) and there are a lot of different articulations,
It has all of the basics. If you are a guitar player, you may not find that you need it. I bought it years ago when it first came out, but started using it in my iPhone as something to lay down ideas when I'm not around my guitar. I actually don't play or listen to that heavy style of guitar anymore (I'm more into Dream Pop and Post-Rock these days), but it's the best sample set available for metal guitar for iOS. You may also look into the SFZ version of Shreddage Bass. I REALLY like that bass! I use it for a lot of things.
TL;DR -- It's fantastic if you are into metal guitar and you don't know how to play guitar.
If you know how to play guitar, there is an element of realism that comes with actual playing that no sample set can beat.
Yes, I would never buy anything but dry samples. I'm too picky about effects to let anyone dictate to me how my guitar should sound. These dry samples work great with amp modelers like THU or Nembrini's AUv3 stuff.

Please excuse my ignorance but I do not know what SFZ Is or Audio Layer?
I was thinking of using Koala sampler to record samples of a friend playing muted power chords. Sustained chords and false harmonics I was hopping to control the samples via velocity. Soft for mutes, harder for sustained and hardest for false harmonics.
From the context of this thread there may be a way that these samples are already available?
AudioLayer is an app that lets you make instruments out of samples. You can import samples to it and assign them to keys and velocities. So, for instance, you could have a guitar playing a note C4 at one or more velocities, then map those to the C4 key and tell it which sample to play when a note is received at a certain velocity range. If you spread that same sample out over the C4-B4 keys, the app would pitch it up when you played higher keys.
SFZ is a "SoundFont" file format that is designed to collect samples and tell a compatible app which notes and velocities they're mapped to. Another SoundFont file format is sf2 - pretty much the same idea, but with some significant differences. Both types of files can be found on the internet.
AudioLayer can import SFZ files. It can also "auto sample" other apps and make its own instruments. You tell AudioLayer how many notes and velocity levels to record, and it sends MIDI out to the app and records the result, making a sampled instrument.
There's more to it than that, but those are the basics while trying to avoid being too confusing.
Do you have any suggestions for getting the mappings to load properly in AudioLayer?
I bought it, and I tried to import the "master mono" SFZ into AudioLayer, with all of the samples for Shreddage and Shreddage X...and many of the samples are stacked on top of each other, especially the "right hand" or "single notes" area of the keyboard. Is there anything special required to get it to load properly?
IIRC, you have to load each articulation separately in its own instance. I hope this helps!

@Audiojunkie I tried separating by file name, since I don't know which files are from overlapping articulations, and I ended up with 31 folders, named after each type of file. So for example, I have a folder named "Fast Palm Mute Down", and in that folder, I have a copy of "Shreddage Master Sforzando.sfz" and a folder called "Samples", which contains all of the Fast Palm Mute Down files.
When I try to import that into AudioLayer, it loads a blank template. Is there any way you could check and see which files are included in one of your articulation presets? Maybe if I include more files, it will load properly?

Unfortunately, since I don't really use it anymore, I don't have it loaded onto my system. I know that I was able to make things work by loading the separate articulations, but I don't remember much more. I don't really do hard music much anymore. I do remember that not all of the articulations were needed--for example, some are used for setting up a doubled guitar setting, which is a redundancy. About half of the articulations are duplicates for the doubled guitar for the Shreddage Master Sforzando patch. None of that is needed, since those a special articulations used to create a multitracked guitar sound, using to different amp sims. If I remember correctly, there were only 12 -15 articulations that were needed to have the entire set up. The rest are for the Shreddage Master Sforzando patch which is specifically for Sforzando. I hope this helps.
Oh, I may be wrong, but I seem to remember there being patches for left hand pianists and right hand pianists. Using both would cause the overlap you are talking about. Like I said, when it all boils down, there are really only like 12 true articulations to complete the guitar.
