Only a 2nd hand one ... in high school my sister and her friends used to go watch them practice in their garage back before anyone knew who they were. She was friends with Jack Joseph Puig, who also went on to become a hot-shot producer.

1984 album tour I saw Van Halen back when it was just “general admission” on New Years Eve night. I remember DLR swinging out over the crowd on a vine like Tarzan with Champaign bottles, dousing those of us on the front row. This was back when Eddie would run up the front of his stacks of Marshalls. One of the most memorable concerts I had ever attended.
When Their first album came out, I was a kid in the middle of fucking nowhere. No rock radio — only country and religious crap.
There was a community pool across the street from me, and they hired one of the cutest girls in school as a lifeguard. I had a huge crush on her.
The next day, this buff college kid from L.A. shows-up as pool supervisor!
I was totally pissed. She had a huge crush on him.
I went over to check him out, when suddenly I heard this ungodly awesome noise! Yup, it was Van Halen's debut album.
Forget the chick, I'd discovered nirvana!
