best AUV3s for bouncing ball echo?

Hello!

What are your favorites for auto-modulated/synced expanding+contracting echos?

    Thank you for this

I am looking for something a bit less classic more like smart electronix Bouncy.... @brambos ~ it just dawned on me in a different era you were probably responsible for making this? if so~ I spent many hours drooling over this in highschool thank you🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

Is anyone aware of anything that behaves more like this? I am having a difficult time finding an example video, but it's a modulated buffer delay that expands and contracts with pitch shifting options

  • No, that’s another Bram

We were active around the same time but he made lots of audio effects, while I was doing things like Hammerhead and Tuareg and Moonfish.

  • Maybe send an LFO or two to the time parameter of a delay that doesn't imitate the effect of tape slowdown when time is changed. If the delay has a pitch parameter you could LFO that as well.

Thafknar. Better than any pre-made effect because you're totally free to build your own delay shape.

Here's the Drambo patch I've used to create the bouncing ball IR, basically a few dirac pulses:

  • @rs2000 woh this is brilliant! is your patch available to download anywhere?

This was easy, and is very close to your audio example.

Just copy what you see, it's really only these two modules and a sequence with notes placed to where you want the ball to bounce off ;)
Hit REC before you run the pattern and hit it again before the pattern ends. Flexi will then automatically punch out.

  • @wim gorgeous thank you!!

  • Curious about any further options that exist nowadays for bouncing ball?

I’ve had some joy using StepPolyArp’s ratchet function on a long note (divide by 4, speed increases, volume decreases)

You could set up the Mela 3 midi modules to do something like this, I think @Nikolozi right?

if I understand correctly the requirement is to vary the delay times between the taps? In that case, yes Mela MIDI can do that. In v3.6, the Random module could modulate the Delay parameter of the Note Echo module. In v3.7 (currently in beta), you can use a sine LFO to do the modulating.

Yes, I think to vary the velocity as well probably, though the audio example posted would not play for me for some reason, so I'm just guessing

Cool. And yes, you can vary the velocity in sync with the modulation. For that, you would add the Velocity module in the chain and modulate its Offset parameter.

  • Thanks @Nikolozi and @Gavinski . I think the time between taps is halved with every consecutive tap. The only other ingredient is that the pitch needs to remain consistent, does Mela do that?

Sure, though you could also have a variety of pitched delays if you wanted

Regarding, the pitch remaining the same that's not a problem, as the Mela MIDI is a MIDI FX plug-in. How many taps do you need? If up to 4, then it's no problem. I was able to place one Note Echo module on all 4 lanes and then set the delay amounts to 100%, 150%, 175%, 187.5%.

  • Bouncing Ball

Here's the preset I created quickly. I've added the Logger to show the MIDI note-on/offs. I'll include the preset in the next update :). You can of course ramp velocity and/or pitch up or down.

  • Thanks for confirming B)

I had a feeling you would make a preset for this, nice one!

This is a mozaic bouncing ball midi delay with gravity and air friction settings. As it's midi, no pitching up or down.

  • Thanks for posting that @MFBT! Here’s a setup video with Dedupe:

You’re right that there’s no pitch component to the one you posted. You could try using this panning gravity delay though, and map the MIDI CC out (default CC10, configurable) to pitch bend 🤔

If anyone tries it please post a video!
