OT: iPad music enthusiasts, how old are you?
I've been following AB forum for somewhat more than a year. I have a feeling that most of us who are into iPad music (whatever level) are over 40 or even 50. I also belong to this age group, I'm almost 50.
So I'm just curious whether my perception right

Yeah I think we're mostly Gen Xers here.
Get off my lawn and/or give me an app with multiple audio outs.
Weird - still early, but expected most to be much younger than me. Would someone hazard theories of why the iPad music enthusiast crowd skews so old?
In my day we had leaded gasoline and had to use quarters to call someone while we were away from home.
Yeeehaaaaaa we’re old bastards!.
Wow I’m in the first batch😂😂😂35 here.
HAHAHAH. Now I’m giggling out loud reading a forum where old people talk about gas in order to relief their monotonous misery. It only gets better,
In my day we couldn't afford gas so we didn't need a dime to make a phone call because we couldn't afford to travel. Hmmm, not much has changed...
I was promised flying cars and robot maids, but all I got was a full music studio inside a battery-powered tablet. Oh, wait . . .
Couldn’t you have used Drambo for this?
im old. we are talking false teeth here.
95% men I guess?
So old that I made my first synth out of a cigar box, baling wire, and half a walkie-talkie.
So far 80% is over 40... It really justifies my theory So is it the medicine for midlife crisis?
But where are the young people? They don't make music with iPad? What do they use? Or they just not present on this forum?
My guess is this.
35 here. Been using iOS exclusively for production since about 2011. For me, it was out of necessity (long commute pre COVID, young kids = no time).
Most younger folk seem to use mostly phones, and I think even though these apps are cheap as chips, the barrier to entry is still high for the younger crew not working yet, or having to spend that income on more essential things. That's my take at least.
36 here. Been using the iOS exclusively for music production since 2014/2015. NS1 and FLM2 were my gateways into iOS music creation back when I got my first Apple device in 2011, but I still mostly produced on a PC laptop. Gadget changed my life and became my go-to production environment (where then I'd mix down stems in Auria Pro with Fabfilter IAPs) up until NS2 was released as well as FabFilter plugins going AUv3.

You're probably right
So if we begin a "What was your first computer?" thread, we're talking mostly about Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Acorn Electron, BBC Micro, Oric 1, ZX81 etc?
Actually I think I'll do just that ... POLL HERE
I remember when the first analog synths started to be used in rock music back in the day (I was listening to a lot of progressive rock at the time). Those were new sounds at the time, and in my teens I was dreaming about owning an OB-X or a Jupiter 8.
Then I'd go to a music store, and that synth of my dreams was something I could never afford.
Fast forward to a few years ago when I discovered I could buy an iPad, and "they" sold Apps that emulated the vintage synths I coveted in my youth.... AND they cost less than $50 !
For me my iPad journey began with having the synths I had always wanted.
I think it's why I personally like generative synths with lots of adjustable controls to tinker with, and building sounds.
59 today actually...
Happy birthday!. 🎉
Years ago I’d play a lot of shows but had very shitty equipment. Couldn’t afford it. Maybe the odd second hand affordable pedal every once in a while. Mediocre amp. Couldn’t hear myself singing in the rehearsal space, no compression, reverb...
Midlife has brought GAS. I wish I could invite the younger me over and show him the pedals I keep in the closet cos in don’t use but won’t sell just because. He would have hated me, I’m sure cos I hated the older guys with really nice equipment.
Thank you!
Happy birthday @lasselu. Many more and healthy ones.
It’s great @GLacey asked this. I’m shocked at the age skew, actually. And a bit disappointed, but the poll, if not the membership, is still young.
At 72 I can remember banging a bone on a log. Having these tools and possibilities (including BandCamp and SoundCloud for immediate publishing) is beyond miraculous. I’m grateful not to take this stuff for granted like the Gen Deltas.
My partner is 22. She thinks me using forums is like telegrams and shit. 👌
32 here. 🙂
I’m 22, pretty new to the forum, been trying to use my iPad more for music alongside Ableton which is my main DAW for now, lots of useful info here!
Happy Birthday!
I’ll be 51 on Friday the 23rd.
