Limited Multitasking – "begrenzte Multitasking"

I'm on iPad Pro 2020, 11 inches. My set of apps is steady for longer time. Keystage, AUM, Colossus Electric Piano Pack, SampleTank, Korg Module Pro, Moog's Model D, and SynthMaster Player. It works perfectly. But sometimes (still) at home I go to other stuff. And Eurosport Player is case #1.
If I add this app to my musical set (I'm avid cycling fan), watch some stuff, and then I can't go back to my stuff normally. Everytime I have to turn off, and reload Colossus, and maybe, every second time Ihave to restart SampleTank. New unit, 2020, Pro in the name, reliable set of apps, but conflicted with non-Music world. So, I called it Limited Multitasking – much stronger German description is "begrenzte Multitasking-Fähigkeit".
I'm wondering if anybody experienced something like that?

I think your problem is with memory (not storage). I expect your iPad has 3 or 4 GB of memory. In iOS, apps load entirely into memory (there is no swapping). Some of those apps require a lot of memory, particularly Colossus and SynthMaster Player. When you switch to playing video, those apps have to surrender memory for the video buffers. They may not be designed to recover by reloading their data, and the video player probably doesn't release its buffers when you stop playing.

But, you should not need to restart the iPad. If you force-quit the video player, and maybe the big music apps, you should be able to get back to work more smoothly.

Edit: iPad Pro 11 (2020) has 6 GB memory, pretty generous. I still expect that force-quitting the video player will help your situation.

Thanks @uncledave , Let me think, you showed the way…

  • on my previus 6th gen iPad, I've never even tried to use other apps. Only one thing; I keept, at home, cellular and wifi on, to be sure, when they off, at the gig, I'll be free of troubles.
    Greetings. Goin' to horizontal position.

And this is right! So even the brand new Pro has "begrenzte Multitasking-Fähigkeit".

    Danke @Max23

This is expected behaviour due to memory limitations. If an existing process can't be held in memory due to a newer process requiring more memory than is currently free, the existing process will either be closed or sometimes archived (hibernated?). Some apps are able to resume from where they left off when reviving from hibernation, others need to restart. Someone who knows iOS better can explain maybe?

I normally avoid switching to other apps when I have music apps loaded for exactly this reason. I have occasionally found that when using AUM, and Audiobus plus some IAA apps like Borderlands Granular, when I switch back to AUM after doing stuff in the other two than AUM looks like it's reloading rather than switching.

It may help to do a hard or soft reboot before a music session to clear the memory out for music apps.
