Bummer that it’s going to be on Apple TV. I don’t have that.
If it's Todd Haynes I'm in.
@Max23 lovely confession 😎
Ironically Moe Tucker is extremely conservative these days (ironic given the Lou Reed, Andy Warhol, Paul Morrison, transvestite, etc connections). Don't think she'd be super happy to be mistaken for a man...
Curious if Haynes is going to cover this. Hoping he does.
So Moe Tucker and John Cale are the two remaining original members, right? Doug Yule is also still alive I see.
This one is free to watch for Prime members on Amazon, it's pretty decent and has quite good interviews with Moe Tucker and Doug Yule:

Top Trivia (not from the documentary but from a Bowie biography): When he made his first trip to New York David Bowie went to see the Velvet Undergroud perform, not realising that Lou Reed had recently left and Doug Yule was now the lead singer. He spent some time praising a bemused Yule to the skies, who then had to point out his error.
And of course it was Bowie who made the Velvets famous. The Banana album sold less than 1000 copies in the UK during the sixties, Bowie sought Lou Reed out and revived his career by persuading him to record Transformer. Prior to that hardly anyone knew who Lou Reed was. Iggy Pop would also be an unknown today without Bowie's patronage. Iggy was grateful, Lou less so.
If anyone could handle that in an interesting way it would be Haynes. I generally loathe biopics, but his are always interesting and weird in the right ways.
Totally agreed! I hadn't thought about this before the announcement yesterday. After the announcement, I was thinking if there was anyone who could potentially be a better candidate for this than Haynes. I could not think of anyone.
I'm gonna need to watch Safe tonight.

If you haven't seen it, this is quite something:

Speaking of music docs, the new David Byrne American Utopia is amazing! It's on HBO Max. You can get a free trial for a week or two if you don't want to pay.
The entire band is mobile and wireless.
🤭😂
He certainly never tried to be a crowd-pleaser 😮
That’s my favorite press conference of all time.
Oh yeah, waiting for the day this can get a non-surreptitious release (love to hear more detail on backstory, lawsuits, etc.)...
Incredible stuff.
Believe it or not, Paul Morrissey has been an unapologetic conservative since the late 60s.
He, far more than Warhol, was guilty of cynically exploiting the “freak show”
MrsChasteen ran into her son earlier today. Richard is an extremely nice guy who never exploits the connection. A first rate musician, as well.
Her name was Rachel Humphreys
