GarageBand update

Just noticed that our poor relation GB was updated today ,loops and keyboards and so another child from probably our first host .

Comments

  • I tried some of the keyboards, and I really liked some EPs!

  • Good sounds but needed more functionality. Maybe 14.2 will bring that once it’s out.

  • Still pound for pound the best bang for your buck on ios

  • The sampler was updated.

  • So this update implies there will be no updates for awhile again for Garageband on ios. No Logic on iPad, not even an improved Garageband. Let’s see what happens on the Logic Pro front with the upcoming ARM macs. Will Logic be as powerful on Apple Silicon as it is on Intel Macs? What about Plugin compatibility? Will it be a step backwards? Rumours say iphone will be portless soon....
Is Apple leaving musicians in the dust?

  • iPadOS 14 only.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.

First of all, even before CPU/RAM questions, Apple is considering Logic as being their pro software and I think they are right on this point: seeing a professional studio entirely built around an iPad is not for tomorrow... will probably never happen.
This is also why Steinberg is proposing a (very) lighter version for iOS of Cubase.

The iPad Pro was created primarily to provide a secondary mobile solution for professionals who work primarily on the desktop.

What I mean is that the iPad is first and foremost an entertainment machine. For an entertainment machine, I think we already have some great tools at our disposal 🙂 GarageBand is really powerful, I love it and I do everything I want with it. Even if I'd be the first to rejoice in having Logic on iPad.

Just give us a better ios garageband. Mixer, master output. Just these 2 would immensly improve garageband.

  • It’s time the sampler added some more functionality. Key groups would be good.

    @Jimmy I 1000000% agree

The same. I am waiting for Automation in GarageBand.

+1, A better mixer with master output would be great, but what would really be great for me personally is if there was an option to export a GarageBand project to Logic that automatically bounced all audio unit tracks in place first. I’d even settle for the ability to export stems from all tracks.

  • Def individual stem export option would be great and then the mixer and automation.

In fact, I'm afraid some of these features may never happen because they are only used by advanced users and GB is supposed to be an easy-to-access app to allow as many people as possible to make music.

One solution would be for Apple to introduce these features but make them accessible via an "advanced features for advanced users" button in the settings.

Brilliant. Just like in Logic. Put an ‘advanced’ button in in Garageband. It can stay as an easy to access app but with more features if needed. Ipad pro is very very capable now.
It’s time to bring more fundamental features from Logic. No one would complain 🙂

  • This is the audiobus forum, everyone would complain when their most wanted feature didn't make the list.

    So true🙂
Things get better because people complain though. Anyway the future looks like iPad OS will melt with MacOS. I think a MacPad is in the pipes in a few years😂

  • i have no idea how to get to the sample presets on my iphone lol
easy on ipad as the menu is right there... but my phone all i see is input

Lol, I’d love some more features but I could never really complain about GarageBand given how much it does for FREE! Well I guess you do have to buy an IPad or have someone give you one but still 🤷🏽‍♂️ , but I do have a complaint with this update, which is you HAVE to update to OS 14 to get it, which I don’t see myself doing for a while.

This is alwayssss the way though. Every major (sic) update needs the latest iOS. This is the first time I updated day one and just didn’t give a faff, mostly cause I haven’t really been working on anything :(
