Any Launchpad Pro experts? Can its sequencer sync with LK?
For years, probably starting with Musix Pro, then GeoShred, then Roli Lightpad, then Velocity keyboard, and now Launchpad Pro (with its integrated sequencer — recently updated to have unquantized recordings)...
I’ve been trying to create on iPad an Ableton Live -like setup with a playable Linnstrument -style interface.
LK is becoming a key to the puzzle. And Launchpad Pro is pretty much nuts.
Any ideas how I might be able to get LK and launchpad pro sequencer to SYNC?
Comments
By the way the Launchpad Pro is an excellent playing surface — with the most sensitive pads in the product line.
Glissando is waaaaaaasaaaayyyyyyy overused in GeoShred SWAM, for example, etc anyway
@audiobussy I believe in future updates the team are looking at LPX and Akai to start with so here is hoping for some LP Pro MK 3 love with LK and Atom 2.
Cool, thanks.
@AndyPlankton — don’t you have a similar setup? Are you able to use transport controls, sync metronome, etc.?
You can sync the LP Pro using MIDI Sync, either as a sender or receiver of the clock.
We are adding controller support to LK. Right now we have only done AKAI APC Mini support. We are waiting for a Launchpad X to arrive as well as a Launchpad Mini Mk2
I'm not aware of the differences between Launchpad models and their inter compatibility.
@sinosoidal LP Pro has an internal sequencer, the other models are pure controllers without the sequencer.
Would it make sense to provide some editor to be able to map your own controller? I know Atom plans to provide some way to map any controller for clip launching. Or do you plan to make Ableton-ready controllers think they're connected to Ableton Live? There is some special communication going on between Live and such controllers, I believe it should be possible to simulate it. That way we could get all the nice stuff like controlling LEDs, making pads blink when waiting for trigger etc... Also, the "red rectangle" showing you which section of clips you currently control is suoer-useful.
I own AKAI APC40, which is a perfect Ableton controller. I can help you with testing if needed as it should be quite similar to APC mini.
Exactly. Leverage the expertise and enthusiasm of the community.
@sinosoidal — love the editor idea. Also, deep integration of controllers like the LP Pro into LK could make for a real Live/Push competitor!
@audiobussy did you find a way to sync LK and the LPP sequencer?
I‘m trying to find a way to record the midi from the sequencer somehow, but without the need to edit everything afterwards. No luck so far 😞
Any suggestions are welcome.
Oh no, sorry. I’m going to need to watch someone else’s video even for the basics, I’m afraid
I’ve got a sense that this is a very strong combination, but I’m not sure how to use it!
It has this button that sends the whole sequence to Ableton Live. Not sure what it does technically, but probably a stream of MIDI data. You can set it into DAW mode like other Novation products, so maybe the LK devs will be able to use that.
Would be awesome, because then the combination of LK & the Launchpad is a real powerhouse.
OK. So how are you using the LPP? Any great workflow going?
So far I have an AUM template that makes LK trigger audio loops in different EG Pulse instances. Inspired by the setup @PeteSasqwax describes here
I set it up pretty much like the Launchpad app and put Koala FX on each of my three mix busses (drums, bass and melody).
It’s a blast to trigger clips with the session view of the LPP and play with the Koala FX on two custom pages. Pretty much a customizable version of the launchpad app. 😎 It’s just a little tedious to set up.
