it is able to import them but can it also save patches in the original DX7 format? if says in the description "you can manage the hardware DX7 if it is connected with external midi cables" which brings my hopes up.
Oh my god, the sheer number of parameters makes me painfully aware again on how I haven't even scratched the surface of this little device
Yes, KQ-Dixie can save banks in DX-7 sysex format (the middle button DX+).
that's awesome. there's something about the UI i like too. would look great if it was a little pixellated, somehow gives me some old school macintosh vibes
The UI is great indeed... tapping an item pops up a very (!) touch sensitive graph that even controls an external DX smoothly, or gives numeric options for precise/tiny adjustments.
I have a TX-7 (tabletop DX-7) parallel to KQ and the difference between the two is subtle in most cases.
This may be used as a feature, if each is panned to one side of the stereo panorama.
But KQ is close enough to get along without the external hardware in (f.e.) mobile situations.
Compared to DX Manager on Windows realtime tweaking is magnitudes faster in KQ.
(but DX Manger features the better bank/patch management)
Nice!!! Just bought KQ Dixie and used thisdx7cardoesnotexist.com Both are easy, fun, and the sounds are cool.
Stopping myself now from a binge. Bleass Omega sounds great and the UI looks good.
I’ve really gotten into Ableton’s Operator. Are any of the iOS FM synths similar, in terms of features/parameters? Or should I try to make one in Drambo?
Specifically, I’m looking for one that lets you draw in which harmonics you play, which is great for bells, and vocal-like formants.
Now that's different. Several Virsyn synths let you draw harmonics but you might also have a look at AudioDamage Phosphor 2 or 3. It's an additive synth that will do FM-like sounds as well and I like the usable retro UI.
@rs2000 Nice. I'll check those. After watching this video with Francis Prève…
I finally understood how useful FM can be, especially when you have custom waves, and subtractive filters. It seem like it can do just about anything. And Operator has an amazingly good UI. But sometimes I don't want sit at the desk and use the Mac.
That's what I love in Drambo @mistercharlie. Combining modules is as easy and quick as what Francis did in the video. The only missing feature is Operator's harmonics drawing but at least there are many wavetables with useful combinations of harmonics which IMHO is just as efficient, if less random 😉
Graphical Shaper to 'Draw Waveforms' to the rescue then or?! ehh
There's a reason why I want proper 'hand drawn' oscillator waveforms without extra modules for Drambo...
...be it a pure 'waveform' or by using 'additive partials' (4-128 'vertical sliders' for partial level would do, extra bonus for modulation input to selected partial (ie. for modulating partial number and it's level) or group of partials).
Then again I find it quite fun to abuse the WaveTable oscillators for this
Is there a good FM synth on Drambo's patchstorage?
One of the best I've seen is "ZX-81" but the guy is asking $5+ for it:

He also has a few cool other things on his gumroad page.
A kind of preview of it is here:

Another quite unique synth using FM + Wavetables:

Looks like Virsyn’s new Tera Pro does all of this! Playing with it now. Got some nice chiming bells with the custom hand-drawn harmonics thingy.
Yeah, Tera Pro suddenly appeared right after you've asked for it a few hours before 😅
Btw, wouldn't AddStation be a good candidate for drawing harmonics as well?
Yepp, most Virsyn synths have the harmonic oscillator as an option.
Maybe I should ask for a Drambo update now?
😂👍🏼
Good stuff, thanks.
