haha . i struggle with phone jams too, but there are a handful of apps that work great for the iphone for me, but ya my full on aum sessions don’t happen on iphone. i stick with grooveboxs mostly on the iphone, gadget, kew, gr16, koala, groovebox, caustic...or just open a synth standalone and do some patch work just for fun

  • I try to stick to universal apps so at least I’ve got the option of both, Gadget seems to have the best iCloud sync for starting a project on one device and picking it up on another.

  • Android phone. Two+ iPads tho. 😅

    iPad for Music
iPhone for recording videos of iPad music
    :)

  • I love my iPad Pro for making music. I used to have an iPhone but never used it for music making, too small format for my liking. I’ve been really happy with my Samsung phone 😁

There should have been 5 possible answers...

    1. Exclusively iPad
    2. Mostly iPad, occasionally iPhone
    3. Even mix
    4. Mostly iPhone, occasionally iPad
    5. Exclusively iPhone

I'd also love to know how most users split their music making between desktop and mobile.

I'm exclusively iPad for the first question, and majority mobile/minority desktop for the (hypothetical) second.

  • Actually iPad iPhone and iMac. I love how it all fits together. Especially with Gadget as a hub. Layout in iPad, fiddle around with it on the go on the phone and finish it on the Mac. The current file always in reach via iCloud on all devices. Maybe porting to Logic and use the iApps as MIDI expander...

  • iPad simply because I don't have iPhone. I still can't handle a phone that has an email and social media. :D

  • I use both, but definitely use my phone a LOT more than my iPad for actual music making these days. For me it's about the freedom to make music where ever, and I rarely carry my iPad outside the house.

This. I got an iPad Pro for music but it mostly collects dust. Interacting with an iPad feels super clunky to me. I just move much faster with apps that are well designed for iPhone - FAC apps, Eventide stuff, NS2 (dying for audio tracks though). My eyes are still really good so that probably helps. Never have any problems with my iPhone 8 Plus.

There should have been six answers:

    1. I’m announcing my withdrawal from iOS music making and this forum next week. Countdown begins today.
  • I only use my phone to catch samples or direct sample to OP-1 and also keep wavestation on it to sample chords into my Blackbox. iPad I do everything on, if I had to choose it’s def ipad

  • Ipad for tablet, Android for phone. I can't imagine using iOS for my daily driver in that capacity. The lack of flexibility is astonishing and I still find myself shaking my fist at the iPad regularly for its closed down nature.

And then there’s amateurs like me that end up getting more done on my phone because when I’m out with it I find moments of TIME when I can focus on music. At home I’m constantly busy doing other stuff. Used to be the opposite.

That’s how it all started for me some 4-5 years ago. Then I eventually got an iPad mainly for making music. It took me to a whole new level. I had no idea how I was worked on that iPhone as soon as I had an iPad. Lol.

  • iPhone for production and mastering.
    It’s always with me.
