iPad 2 should I upgrade to iOS 7 now?

Given that the new update is iOS 7 only, should I upgrade to iOS 7 now ? been holding off till now but have received no email from the audiobus team. Given that they advised not to upgrade to ios 7 when it came out, I feel like they should advise now. I use an iPad 2.

  • I have an ipad 2 32 gb, and an iPad Air 128 gb, and upgraded the 2 to ios 7. Apple says the oldest devices that can update are ipad 2 and iphone 4. And with ios 7.1 the performance has been improved overall on these devices. I also have an iphone 4 running ios 7.1, and although it's not perfect, it's pretty good considering. I haven't run into huge problems but then again haven't extensively tested these devices under intense CPU stresses. Wait to see what others say in terms of audiobus 2 performance on these devices.

  • I have an ipad 2,3 and air and works fine, of course the diference is high from 2,3 to air but ipad 2 wothi ios 6 and ios 7 is almost the same power you will have in fact for normal sutff not music is i think better, even in music you will not notice a big difference i use beatmaker 2 and works good on 6 than 7, but with AB2 you cant do a lot of chains if you are running synths as inputs but i think that should happen to in ios 6 if you could run AB2 on ios 6 of course. So i think update is good

I only started using AudioBus shortly before the iOS7 update happened. I updated almost right away. Nothing stopped working, but after 7.0.3 or so, the crashes were getting so bad, I basically started favoring my iPhone. 7.1 was supposed to fix a lot of those issues, and it does seem a lot more stable now.

I see no reason not to update. The slowdown on iPad 2 would happen on iOS 6 also.

I updated all my iPad2's recently, and all appears to run just fine. I think I can recommend iOS 7.1 for iPad2. Before I was running iOS 7.x on one iPad2 for some months, and didn't see any disadvantage.

I thought there was a problem with wifi. My local wifi network (not connected to the internet) does not show the wifi symbol on 7.x iPads, and I was worried about that. But in the end, the functionality and connectivity is correct, even without that symbol appearing. So I finally decided to update all iPads.

  • Thanks for the responses, I realise there will be limited CPU available for big chains but the added functionality is probably worth the update to iOS 7 and audiobus 2 right? I was just a bit wary about updating what with warnings left right and centre.

  • it's definitely worth it, just for preset saving alone.

  • I'd wait another 10 minutes,, just in case, then upgrade...

  • But someone of the internet posted that it's a piece of crap! They wouldn't have said that if it isn't true,right...?

as we all know, we cannot trust such posts. They may have been created out of ignorance. The only way to know is to test yourself. In my case, it's a luxury to have more then one iPad. Test for a couple of weeks or months, then you know.

  • I've been using 7.xx since about a week after they released it. Never had any specific problems, and 7.1 runs completely smooth on my ipad2.

I was just making fun of the "sky is falling" posts...
