Compositional practice is about constructing and organizing multiple layers of sonic material at first step. In production, we use DAWs to preset this material on separate tracks with either synthesised sounds in real time, or recorded material as sound files or live audio input.
This simultaneous overlapping of sonic material creates the sonic emergence with different balancing strategies, and mixing techniques. The volume control of each track on a DAW has been offered with sliders like a mixing console and scoring possibilities with the volume automation data for each track on the time line.
There are no practical solutions or an engine to creatively manipulate the balance of the DAW tracks at once with a common gesture in real time. ! The VOLBot is exactly filling this gap.

  • I'm not sure what does this exactly do?

    Bebot’s deranged younger brother.

  • This definitely needs a tutorial. @Gavinski

  • This seems kinda cool 😎

  • love this, stochastic audio modulation :)

  • Couldn’t I just draw random lines in my DAW lanes on my own? It’s neat, but not sure I need the security of knowing my modulation is certified stochastic.

  • Does anyone understand how to use the client? And is there a manual?

  • No idea, just diving in blindly !!!!

  • Yes, not sure what I did but this happened

  • IPad Pro 12.9 the bottom is little cut off, better handled in Fundamental.

  • Yeah, you can open it full size though, at least.

  • sonic lab the new audio damage? releasing new apps while the old ones are still unusable

In my opinion the are usable, just little graphic glitch. Nothing that make app less usable. Now I’n trying to figure what client does.

Another Fundamental style interface but possibly less responsive - definitely one for a stylus...not at all sure what I'm doing but hey, it's a rainy day and I'm not going anywhere...

Great experimental app and a decent manual as well, thanks for the link @Gavinski.
Looking forward to the rest of the bot series :)
I'm always looking for ways to stochastically modulate things and this makes it really easy. No real problems for me on 12.9 so far...did get a crash once but seems quite stable.

what i ask myself after a little testing is where the big difference is between this and a gate processor like koshiba.

however it would be awesome to have the ability to use its output on midi :)

  • Much more random and subtle variations with this, whereas Koshiba is more controlled and sequenced. Uses for both apps. Koshiba is a sequencer, but this is a super LFO. I'm anticipating his other envelope bot app which also looks great :)

IMHO with this you get better result then with koshiba.

Not that koshiba isn’t great but I like more the output generated by VolBot.

Wait @Gavinski video that will, as always, enlight me about the aspect of the effect that I don’t understand well.

  • I know the difference between a sequenced gate and an LFO, but now after a little experimenting with it I must admit that the results are definitely more abstract.

However I will keep Volbot and look forward to Sinans further IOS ports, because I highly appreciate his concepts and philosophy in modulation

  • I think this could actually go quite well with koshiba. Koshiba providing something more musical and then this bringing in more randomness on top

Same guys behind fundamentals? Edit; ye

  • Just fed it into both Koshiba and Yukawa...Wow!
Very easy to blend between chaotic and structured versions of the same material within a single knob twist. Thanks for the tip @Gavinski !

  • This opens as an AUv3 effect?

Speaking of Stochastic stuff... did you ever get Dhalang MG? If so, you can just use it’s Stochastic stuff and send midi out from it :) Just opened it up to make sure it’s still working well. Appears to be! :)

  • That’s correct

Yeah I did, always liked that app. Just haven't used it in a long time. If it was an Audio unit I'm sure I would be using it more regularly as yeah, some of the stochastic tools in that are really good too. :)
