Some things can be automated with AU instruments in Nanostudio 2?

I've read About not being able to use automation with NanoStudio 2 and AU plug-ins, but I tried quickly this morning and could automate the MOD wheel. Are there some things that cannot be automated and some can?

As far as I've ever discovered, it's possible to automate most (all?) AU plugins but not AU effects.

You can map any parameters to the 8 knobs and XY pad in one of the instrument views and then you’re able to automate those params. Some AU FX offer a version that is automatable through midi, Turnado for one, but otherwise AU FX aren’t automatable.
It also seems like NS2’s internal effects only have track automation not pattern modulation correct?
Yes, everything in the mixer is track automation, everything in the devices is part automation.
All AU instrument plugins can be automated by assigning parameters to the 10 performance controls in the NS AU Instrument. You can save these assignments as templates.
