  • 0coast is great! I have a 0ctrl too, but I've yet to combine them. 😆

@Samu Would you be able to post a screenshot of your patch with how you set up the sequencer? I tried for an hour last night and I could not figure out how to do that for the life of me. There’s definitely a lot that I don’t quite understand beyond the basic patch.

I'm in no way an expert but I just routed the 'clock' the the 'advance' and made sure AUMs transport was running.
The output from the 5 step sequencer went to the pitch of modulator and complex osc. I used the AUM keyboard to keep the gate open.

The somewhat 'laggy' UI makes this app an exercise in patience on the iPad Air 2 :D

    Cheers!

True. However, I’m still on the fence whether to get an 0-Coast, because then I’d also have to get an 0-CTRL. This app will let me fiddle with patching ideas before committing to the real thing and ruining the rest of my eye sight.

There is no soft synth that I have heard on any platform that sounds as good as an 0Coast. I don’t own one, but several friends do. If you like the kind of sounds an 0Coast excels at, I think hardware is still the way to go.

I am not sure why but subtractive synths seem much easier to emulate well than synths that are designed around wavefolding.

Yes but that way eurorack and penury lay.

    I'm a bit puzzled....
Why do most modular stuff only have a clock-dividers but no clock-multipliers?
Still getting my 'feet warm' with this one using the little sequencer in it :)

Dividers are less expensive to build, and work better than multipliers.

But you'll be rich in complex overtones.

Thanks! I think I was probably have issues with that because I was in using it in standalone. I had the sequencer set up like you had it but it wasn't receiving any clock information from anything which is why I could't get it to play.

I appreciate it a lot! Gunna play around with it in AUM on my lunch break!

Hope something can be done about the somewhat 'laggy' UI on older devices, but sooner or later I'll get a new iPad anyway...

Laggy UI here too.. Ipad Pro 10.5" so no so old...

  • ..And scaling issues in 10,5 also

  • Update today fixed scaling issues!

  • I’m intrigued by this. I have no idea about modular synths, west coast, wave folding, and all that stuff, but this is pretty cheap and looks fun.
Is it easy enough to learn, and does it sound significantly different to the usual suspects?
And has anyone come across any demos anywhere?

  • There are some demos on Instagram.
I don’t have an account so can’t see them.
I hope they will be of help to you. Let us know.

This app is basically a software Volca Modular. There is a ton of info for those. You can start here for patch ideas:

  • Hi

I'm the developer of the app and I just wanted to check in and thank those of you who have chosen to buy it and anyone showing interest, I appreciate it. Also, I note down all feedback that I stumble upon and will do what I can to improve the app over time of course.

The current v1.0.1 should, at the very least, physically fit the screen of a 9.7" iPad, sorry about that mistake.

I think my next priority will be to look at any performance issues, so that feedback was very valuable. I also understand presets would be appreciated, so we'll see about that. :)

    Anyway, thanks again!

thanks for checking in! so far i’m liking the simplicity of the app gui and the sounds! looking forward to watching it grow and be used in projects. also i do love presets hahaa

if you spend a few weeks with modular synths and patching you’ll get the hang of it and be like ohh that wasnt so bad. there’s always more to learn but it’s simpler to learn the more once you have the basics. you got this!

@kennylovrin Good to see you on the forum - I'm totally new to modular - this seems like a good introduction but would be great for me if there were a few simple example layouts to show how to get the best out of it....😊

  • Thanks for being here @kennylovrin

  • Hi @kennylovrin, would be great having the keyboard, reverb and delay in auv3 Since those effects are part of the patches (and can be saved within AUM. Also the UI is very sluggish and moving the parameters is difficult. Both in my pro 10,5 and 6th gen ipads

  • i’m not doing so good at trying to follow volca modular patches into branches lol 😆 i can build stuff on mirack but i’m lost here i’ll admit it

I might be misunderstanding what you're saying, but technically speaking, when you run Branches standalone, the Synth engine and FX are separate audio units. Essentially, the standalone mode is a host app loading the Branches engine as a AU, then one Reverb AU and one Delay AU. As it stands right now I don't have any plans to integrate the FX as part of the synth engine itself in this specific app. However, I have considered exposing the two FX as AU-plugins as well, so that when you buy Branches you essentially get 1 synth, 1 reverb & 1 delay which can all be loaded in another host (like AUM). I haven't made up my mind here yet though, but the point is that the FX are technically separated from the Branches synth itself.

Regarding the UI lagging, that of course is crap, I will look into that as the first item on my list of improvements/features. I will try to improve it as soon as I possible can, in between client work, but hopefully I can do some improvements. I'm using the new SwiftUI framework from Apple so it could very well be that there are optimizations I am yet unaware of. :)

I did add some "tips" in the instruction manual the other day, kind of like examples to illustrate certain patch ideas. For example there is a tip on how to patch a randomized scale quantized melody. I kind of try to educate a bit re. modular synths in the manual as well as not everyone has that experience. However, it's still quite thin so not sure how easy it is to understand. ;)

I will try to add pictures/videos going forward, but I can't say when they'll be available. It's kind of a one man show here so certain things will take some time.

  • This is like a volca modular huh, that's HUGE selling point for me. You serious?

thanks @kennylovrin ,Good to know lag UI is first priority!
About the effects, especially when you save patches (ok you can´t inside Branches but you can in AUM) most of the time the reverb and delay are part of the sound design itself so please consider to integrate them, as other iOS synths or even inhardware, as my Buchla Easel and Synthi have the reverb integrated in the instrument and as part of the sound.
Meanwhile would be great to have both the reverB and delay as separate AUFX
