Looking for a desktop sampler plugin similar to Bm3
So I just got logic but I’m having difficulty with it’s built in sampler. Coming from Bm3 I’m used to a mpc-style work flow when sampling, and logic doesn’t seem to accommodate this too well. I’m talking loading samples on to pads, being able to assign choke groups, and being able to play each sample like an instrument. I looked at maschine but it only seems to come with the hardware. Anybody know of anything?

Serato Sampler is your go to.
You could download the free MPC Beats from Akai
It works fine as a Plug-In in Logic...

The 'Drum Machine Designer' is quite easy to use. Start with a blank kit and drag samples to the pads.

Each pad gets a dedicated audio-track so you can add effects as needed.
In case you need to process each quick-sampler slice with effects, you can easily create a kit for drum machine designer by dragging the sample to a new track and selecting Drum Machine Designer.
Once it 'clicks' it super easy...
Cheers!
Excellent suggestions, thank you guys
@WillieNegus whats idam?! That sounds ideal
Nvm I found it. Wow, did not know you could do that, that makes everything better lol
Geist2 remains king on desktop. Recently the development was active (after looong time) so it worth's a try

IDAM is a way to route audio from the iPad to your Mac
Ableton Live ticks all marks for me with Simpler, Drum Rack and Sampler and all the loop related features plus deep and straightforward MIDI control.
Live and Logic are my two desktop DAWs of choice.
Groove Agent in a daw ( bitwig for me )
so maybe ...
Drag and drop , multi layer , auto sample , color ,wave edit etc, easy to use in a daw .
Ableton directly is powerfull, better than bitwig for wave edition , ( convert to midi is a wonderful feature) .
Maschine vst ( without vst or au in his library just sample , you can open very quickly maschine like that , no scan vst etc...)
Mpc Beat is really good too because it's free and you have a solid daw ,autosample better than groove agent , the workflow is not for me , but it's the same problem with bm3
Battery 3
Geist 3 ??? !! By roli ....:( ....
Or wait for a new Apple silicon MacBook and (potentially) use BM3 and many other iPad apps on your macbook :-)
I’m coming from the opposite position in that I find BM3s pad-first UI to be a pain sometimes, especially when you want to play a sample chromatically.
I find Logic’s sampler(s) to make much more sense.
However, if you’re after something like BM3s pad interface for single hits, try using Logic’s Drum machine designer plug in (DMD). This is similar to pads in Bm3. You load each pad with a sample via the quick sampler plug in or pretty much any AU. Each cell behaves similar to a pad with lots of control over parameters.
So basically you can load as multiple individual quick samplers into each pad or split one loop across multiple pads. And both at the same time.
You can also import a loop and set slices to cells, much like slicing a loop to pads.
The DMD then maps very nicely into the new drum machine style pattern editor. Each pad gets its own track (automatically assigned from DMD) to make it easy to mix each pad individually.
If you want to play back a sample/multi sample on the keyboard you just ignore the DMD/Pads and use a track instead. This is the bit I find much easier in logic as you don’t need to think about pads to just play an instrument. It makes more sense to me personally to not have to think about pads at all if I just want to play a piano for example. I much prefer being able to assign plugins/instruments directly to a track.
DMD gets me close enough for to BM3s pad layout — At least in my experience with BM3 and the way I use BM3. But we obviously all like to use apps differently. :-)
Logic allows you to use it in very different ways depending on your preferences but it can take a while to get your head around all the different ways you can use it.
Maschine is awesome! BM3 wouldn't exist if it wasn't for it and MPC.
Maschine has been so nice to ramp up on I think in part from having used BM3 the last few years. I really am in love with this thing!
BM3 development was definitely inspired by maschine and MPC
@WillieNegus and @AudioGus i’m glad to hear you guys enjoying maschine. Something else we can talk about.
I’m seeing a lot of maschine+ returns, I’ve seen 5 so far that are being sold as open box/return for $1259
I’ve got a 32ft usb cable that saved me $1100
I finally spent last weekend dedicated to Maschine and it finally made sense to me. Mostly. I really dig it.
IDAM and BM3 will be marvelous. I just need more time, Scotty!
I was afraid mine was faulty for a bit but realized (duh) a powered USB hub was needed for a super long USB cable. Live and learn.
@WillieNegus What was the issue with your M+?
Edit: Wrong thread
32 feet! Could be a combo of cable and port quality too.
Gets me to the couch with six feet to spare.
Oh do share. These are the ones I have....

Also, this tray is working well enough for sitting.

Oh that bread looks deelish. Congrats.
@AudioGus & @WillieNegus - what topology are we talking here? What is 32 feet away?
I recently made a USB hub to Bluetooth MIDI extender for under 25$. I'm wondering if it would help in any way. I can have gear plugged into a USB hub and access it all from my iPad over Bluetooth from across the room now.
I was just saying that in order to use Maschine plugged into my desktop 32 feet away I had to resolve it by using a powered USB hub to give it a boost. Probably because the desktop's USB port is weak.
Well even if your desktop provides enough power , 32 feet is long distance for powering usb devices
Most desktops can't even properly power a 1.5 meter on front ports
Not sure. Some Asus something or other. I wasn't terribly scientific with my problem solving though. I have USB 3 ports available in the rear and USB 2.0 in the front and I think I was maybe getting issues with USB 3.0 ports even with the short cable but no issues with the 2.0 ports. Normaly I get my nerd on and figure out the real reason etc but in this case I was happy even to just find a combo of whatever I threw at it haphazardly that happens to work which now includes a powered USB (and who knows, maybe doesn't really need to?) that works. As long as I hear those sweet sweet Massive synth patches while sittin my ass on the couch (which I now do), then win WIN! I was just too excited to think straight and freaked out by the flashing Maschine screens so I was like Homer running through the house doing his taxes scotch taping his cat to a bundle of paper etc.
Well, the most straightforward approach might be something like the Yamaha MD-BT01. I can't say for sure, but that's what they seem to be designed for.
I made a little box that allows any USB connected midi devices to be accessible via BLE Midi. Combined with something like this MIDI-USB cable, might also work.
Cost would be about the same with either option, but the device I detailed how t o make in this wiki article would let any/all of your USB connected midi devices work together and be accessed via BLE Midi.
