Jamulus Anyone?
Anyone jammed on Jamulus?

No. I’ve tried JamKazam, which sometimes works ok, but they just went subscription based and the free tier is only 1hr a week. You can spend that long ironing out issues with the connection...
Interesting, I'd never head of anything like this before. I sure as hell need to be making more music... Do you have any experiences to share?
Sounds like a platform that has 0 audience lol
Just read about it in today's NYT:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/30/arts/music/tyshawn-sorey-alarm-will-sound-music.html
I don’t think it’s meant to be a platform for an audience, it’s more like Zoom, but for musicians, so they can rehearse, write and jam. It has quite a loyal core of users.
I tried it only yesterday, worked surprisingly well. The lag was tolerable, quality was ok if streamed via a wired connection. We had some issues with wifi, but that was to be expected.
We had best results using our own server, for ease of use it is possible to use existing ones - expect other musicians or listeners to drop in though ...
Useless for anything above 30bpm
For music measured in bpm probably true ...
Kidding aside, we had a hard time playing along a click. Jamulus obviously is made for live musicians playing an instrument in real time. Back to playing by ear and feel.
Sounds like heaven...
Kidding aside, any reason you can’t use a slower bpm and just play twice as fast?
Hey guys, I’ve been sitting on something new that plays in this space (but is all peer to peer, so the max group size is smaller), and actually has an iOS version in public testflight as well as Mac and Windows versions (and buildable on Linux).
It’s called SonoBus, check it out at https://sonobus.net . Still early days but worth a look! This one is open source and free.
Works best with wired Ethernet connection to your router, but Wi-Fi still works but will end up with higher latency. You can use usb Ethernet adapters on your iOS devices, along with your usb audio interfaces too (camera connection kit with usb hub, or usb-c).
Probably we should start a new thread about it....
of course, silly me!!!
We tried Jamulus with our jazz quartet and the latency was not acceptable. And three of us live within a kilometre of each other (the fourth was maybe three km away), so it's not like we were in different countries or even cities.
Yes, please do!
I got the beta for two separate iPads and was able to get them to connect and see each other. Super-easy. No router config needed—I did get a message on host iPad that I may need to set up port forwarding on one or both devices. Turns out, maybe not? I just needed to accept permission on the remote non-host iPad. Using the same router couldn’t hurt either.
Super basic question: I understand how SonoBus allows mic input from/to multiple devices. What are the options on iOS for sharing internal instruments, like a simple AUM session with one instrument and one effect to another user also using AUM? I see reference to an AUV3 for Logic, but not having access to my Mac at the moment, I can’t test this.
We need these remote tools now more than ever. Hoping this does what I think it does...
I did. It sank so fast I should have called it SonarBus...
