Actually, even though I don’t love the newer Mac designs at all and hope my 2012 mbp keeps going on and on, I had to help someone with a windows based video streaming system yesterday that kept dropping communication with the focusrite audio interface and I forgot how much of a pain windows is with audio stuff. So I’m stuck with apple. I’m not going the Linux audio route again, that was terrible.

I have that calculator sitting in a desk around here somewhere. It still works. It's outlasted all of my other tech except an HP-15C calculator.
I have a solar calculator from 24 years ago - still works without ever complaining fatigue! I don’t think it has a battery inside it because I never changed it or even opened it.

As someone who lived a long way from a major population zone in the US, the Archimedes wasn't really a possibility for me. The closest I've been to that is running RiscOS on a Raspberry Pi (just for the fun of trying it out).
I've followed Arm since nearly the beginning because of the focus on performance/Watt. Then at one point I had a DEC Alpha workstation on my desk. That thing was crazy fast but could heat up my Florida office to uncomfortable levels in seconds when running simulations. Then I started hearing about DEC's StrongARM processor and the possibility of having all that power in a cool compact format got me wanting an Arm based laptop. It's been a long time coming.
My home computer at the time was a NeXT cube. I loved that thing. It's kinda funny that I may finally end up with basically a NeXT running on an Arm laptop after all this time.
