For those with, or would get, both an iPad and iPhone, which way round?

Only for those already with an iPad and an iPhone, or are going to get both:

When you upgrade, would you emphasise a more powerful or capable iPad, with a lesser powerful or capable iPhone, or the other way round?

In other words, if you’ve got both an iPad and an iPhone, do you think it makes more sense to you to have the top of the range iPad and not a top of the range iPhone, or does it make more sense to have a top of the range iPhone, and not a top of the range iPad?

(Where top of the range doesn’t mean taken literally)

  • for making music. ipad. if you want to take photos and stuff, iphone. i bought a camera for photos tho

  • Personally I had an IPad Air 2 and an IPhone 8 Plus, and I bought a 2020 IPad Pro over a new IPhone, I prefer using an IPad for audio production, and in light of what’s happening in the world right now I’m not as mobile as I used to be before this epidemic.

I’d go for the top of the line phone but for one critical flaw ... the part where it makes and receives phone calls. So annoying and unnecessary.

Top of the line iPad as well for me. Why?

    1. Well, if you can score an old iPhone up to a 6S/6S+/SE (1st edition), you get a headphone jack.
    2. There's a few apps not on iPhone
    3. The screen real estate of the iPhone limits you. 4. Things you'd easily do with Audiobus and AUM would be tedious on mobile.

The iPads are actually cheaper than the equivalent iPhones. Although I'd wait until next year before buying a top of the line iPad.

Now, that being said, if I was taking pictures and videos, I'd put a bit more emphasis on the phone.

  • Interesting mix so far. Also the new way of working has changed the commute so the emphasis on taking the maximum power with you when you go out has changed for many people.

  • Why not get slightly older versions of both?

  • There’s no point in getting an older iPad if you have the newest iPhone unless the screen size is your biggest concern. an iPhone 11/12 will out perform an older iPad pretty easily in my experience.

    This ^

Currently using an 2017 IPad Pro for music, and an iPhone 8s for (mainly) non musical things.

And the IPhone 8 Plus takes great video, up to 4k @ 60 FPS, and when you use it with FilMic Pro it’s even better. I wouldn’t mind the lenses on the 11 Pro but the 8 plus definitely gets the job done

  • I'd go for iPad every time. Actually prefer Android phones. Better OS for everthing except music. Android phone and iPad is the perfect combination :) :D

  • Unfortunately an iPad doesn’t fit in my pocket and is never around when I really need it.

  • Mini is perfect for carrying around and pretty powerful too

As the latest mini is now quite old, do you think it’ll survive as a form factor for future releases?

  • I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max and an iPad air 3. Plan on getting another iPhone iPad combo soon. There’s really no other way IMO.

The only thing I don't like about my X is I need more storage. (movie and sample hound).

  • I have a new iPhone SE, iPad Pro 9.7", Air 2, iPad 2 and a few iPhone 6s.

Mobility has never been a concern for me. iOS is too crippled to really justify a new iPad over a macbook pro at this point.

The SE can handle 6x what the 9.7" pro can at this point. I personally hate trying to do music on a phone for the reasons @WillieNegus has mentioned.
