Here’s a trick I’ve been using lately to get MIDI out of GarageBand. Not everyone might have Beathawk but this is one trick that is super useful if you do.

    The holy grail for me, though, would be the ability to capture the midi from the smart "DRUMMER," and be able to import that into my myriad drum machines! 🙏🏼

    The recent release of iSH to the app store opens some interesting possibilities, including "free" access to Python for those who do not want to get Pythonista. I have not got as far as trying to install it myself but it looks possible, if a bit fiddly.

    As an aside, it also looks like ffmpeg works in iSH which is a bit of an audio swiss army knife and on my list of things to investigate.

    This is a really nice trick 😊👍

    It works really well with LK too, which is the midi sequencer I prefer using 😊

    So this, combined with the python script for extracting the midi for the drums in Garageband, makes midi for all Garageband instruments available for use in other apps, great 😊

    Just tried it and it works well! Is this something that changed with the latest GB update? I know that in the past the desktop version of GB was more flexible for moving MIDI around but don't remember being able to do this in iOS GB.

    @SNystrom @mjcouche - Agreed. That's why when I saw @MisplacedDevelopment script I was like "Whoa, this is super awesome". I do have Pythonista but I'm wondering if Javascript has a decent MIDI library so that Scriptable might be an option. Else, might have to look into other alternatives.

    @MisplacedDevelopment Whoa, I didn't know this. iSH looks super cool. Thanks again for providing such a useful hint. I've been spending the past month trying to make a Remote Server via my Android just for this reason.
    The feature was present in iOS 13 as well. I tested it a bit in the summer but was worried iOS 14 would disable it. Thankfully, it seems to be present on both.
