iPadOS 14.2 released. Fixed my AU state saving

Hello! So 14.2 has been released and installed on my iPad Pro 3rd Gen. I ran through some quick tests and it is saving my AU’s properly now... Blue Mango, FAC... and others.

Seems stable and working just fine!!!

  • Yes! The day has come.

For me Poison-202, Electribe Wave auv3 and the FAC suite all are saving their states again after not doing so in previous iOS 14 releases.

  • How is this IOS 14 in the audio latency ?
Im on IOS 13 and every time I think about updating get scared about the latency being worse (in older IOS I think the latency was better).
I play guitar and midi guitar with my Ipad/Iphone so maybe the latency is more important to me than others.

  • People are reporting drumcomputer crashes atm. I'll hold off.

I’d like to know if it crashes drumcomputer as well. The people mentioning it in the other thread I assume are running the beta, but the latest beta could be the “GM” as well I think?

  • 14.2 crashes drum computer standalone immediately upon opening for me.

It worked on 14.1 before I updated the OS.

  • I updated my iPhone 12 Pro, iPad Pro 11", and my Watch series 6. I can confirm they all still power on, and black hole didn't appear when tried using Groovebox.

DC. As the kids like to call it is running like a champ on mine. Stand-alone and AUV3

I also reboot after the update. Like a double reboot to clean out the gremlins. 😂

  • I just fiddled about within the Advanced Settings > MIDI and turned some things off and Drum Computer standalone has stabilized ( before, it would crash immediately ). I'm only running the trial thus far, so I don't know about the AUV3.

  • Yeah just updated to it and DrumComputer doesn’t work FML LOL

  • Man this is so odd..... @Weareroses you running the trial or full version. I have been jamming 20 mins straight with it and no problems. Hope it gets sorted for you guys.

  • works great here too

Well I was going to buy it after I updated lol. So now I, at a stuck situation. What to do? Now I’m thinking it’ll open enough time for me to purchase so I can purchase and see if that works and fixes it. If it doesn’t I’m kinda s.o.l til they have an update.

  • can anyone confirm drum computer auv3 working or broken on update

  • Ok so since I have updated to 14.2 I managed to purchase, it doesn’t work in standalone but does work it AUM and as avu3. Quite odd.

  • From the DrumComputer thread (it worked for me on iOS 14.2):

Finally found a fix for standalone mode on iOS 14.2

You have to disable Network session 1 output in the advanced settings:

I still can’t get past the splash screen... instant crash on 14.2, 3rd gen 12.9 iPad Pro. How did you manage to get to the settings???

You have to keep launching it repeatedly after it crashes until (eventually) the UI loads. It took me 3 or 4 tries.

Once the UI loads, go straight into Settings > Advanced > Midi and disable the destination section.

  • The method in the post right above fixed the standalone crashing issue for me too.

  • @branis Thanks! That did the trick, Dumcomputer is working now in 14.2. We have to wait for a permanent fix, I already send a bugreport to Sugar Bytes.

  • All versions of 14.2 (beta and public) are crashing Drum Computer in standalone mode.

The solution I discovered is to keep trying to launch the app until you eventually get to the UI, then immediately go to Settings > Advanced > Midi and turn off Network Session 1 under destinations.

It sounds like the AUv3 version works fine in 14.2 - although there are still no icons for AUv3 plugins (thanks a bunch, Apple!)

Sugar Bytes already replied to my bugreport of Drum Computer, they are working on a fix.

'thanks a lot for your report! Yes, we are aware of the problem and we're
already deep in the work to find a fix for that.
At least the AUv3 should work without any problems. Really sorry for the
trouble and thanks for your patience!'

    No.... Sorry.

I think the thing that has amazed me the most about this 14.2 release (from a developer perspective) is that the version of Xcode that you need to debug and deploy to a device with 14.2 on it, isn't officially released (i.e. not available on the App Store) yet... I've never seen that happen before and find it amazingly shoddy.

  • Still getting all AUv3 disappear from list of plugins in all hosts (NanoStudio2, Cubasis3). Only way to fix is restart device.

I think those apps may build and maintain their own databases of AUv3, and they may be having trouble with those files. So this may be a bug for their devs to tackle. How does the list of AUv3 work for you in lighter apps, like AB3 and AUM, which just rely on the OS for the information?

    Haven’t tried them because I don’t use them 🤷🏻‍♂️
Either way.. hope this all gets fixed. It’s not a critical issue just a slight pain in the 🐝 hind.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but could someone explain to me why an update always messes up apps and then they need updating? I guess what I don’t understand is, how does an auv3 get messed up? What are they changing in the operating system that would effect stuff like that?
