Personal project challenge: make tracks with just my iPhone SE 2016

edited November 2020 in Creations

Maybe has been done before, but I’m want to try and make an EP’s worth of tracks using my SE. (I might still finalize on the iPad with Fabfilter plug-ins in Auria.)
Probably will use Gadget 2, Module, AUM, Ruismakers, Audiobus 3, Xequence, Synthmaster One, and FX (Toneboosters, Audio Damage, others...)
Wish me luck :#

  • Good luck, hope you have small fingers

  • It might be over quick! Fat fingers and bifocals :)

  • What you need I have found.... is dont do it!!!! 😂.

No I’m same boat.... fat fingers and cant see. LOL. I have found that patience and working on it in spots helps...
    good luck!!!

  • Yes, I’m hoping to work on tracks anytime as I always have my phone with me. Limitations and accessibility might help me finish tracks more often?!

  • It can be done! This was done on an old SE

Post your results, would be great to hear. Seems pad users greatly outnumber us phone users so go for it and good luck 👍🏻

Nice track! Do you remember which apps you use to create?
I’ve already got a good start on one track; will definitely post results.

  • Thanks. Not a great mix unfortunately. All done in Xequence and Audiobus. Can’t remember others, Spectrum and Animoog were in there I think.
Look fwd to hearing the track. Go on the iPhone users!

  • IPhone SE user here. I have the most luck with Garageband as the main DAW, and using simple AUv3 apps or the Sampler to capture most of the sounds I want to work with.

That said, you could always download something like "Let's view" and project your screen to a computer.

How ‘bout those drums and strings?

  • Dug out file. Drums= DM1 through Bandit. Strings are mixture of samples in Koala and homemade samples with ThumbJam/Filtatron.
Would recommend all those apps although DM1 and Filtatron aren’t without their quirks/issues...
Course us poor phone users don’t get as much choice apps wise 🎻

  • Oof...harder than I thought. Tiny tiny buttons and text. May be giving up to finish on iPad :) .
Anyway, here's an excerpt of a track I started...

  • Nice sounds! Keep going! Gotta love the SE. I have just bought an 8plus though...couldn’t take it anymore

  • Thanks! I will definitely keep that track going and finish it, I like the start I’ve got.
I just change the battery in my SE so I should probably stick with it another 2 1/2 years or so… Then probably UPGRAYEDD

I am finding even though the battery health on my SE says 88% left that it has to be plugged in several times during the day and sometimes goes from hero to zero in just a short time. So I think my days on my SE are numbered and I'll be soon doing the same thing. This is the best phone I've used and after holding the newer phones I am loathe to update until I absolutely have to.

When I bought the phone the Apple genius told me the SE was built for all the people like me who liked the form factor of the old iPhone 5/5S and weren't updating, and that the SE was one of the faster selling phones among that market.

Wow, that's a fantastic track! As if reduction to the minimum could help you make better music.
    Excellent one.

  • @fprintf The old SE is one of the last iPhones that can have the battery changed rather easily.
Make sure you get a quality battery, I've had a batch from a 3rd party manufacturer with 2 out of 3 batteries dead on arrival (they had bad flexiwire connections which are basically impossible to fix diy).
