  • It's not free for existing owners unfortunately. Live 9 had 5 years of free updates, Live 10 has only had 3 years of free updates, looks like paid updates are getting more common.

@ruggedsmooth : I think you’ll find the free upgrade to Live & Live Suite is only for people going in to buy 10 from scratch now ( you are effectively buying the promise of the free upgrade to 11 a few months ahead of time, so as not to instantly kill current sales of 10). If you are already an existing 10 owner, the upgrade cost is currently £143. (apparently a 20% discount on the future retail price of the upgrade). I say this as someone who has pre-bought the upgrade from the Ableton site today, card to be debited at the 20% off price on launch day..

  • Oh yeah, I didn’t see an upgrade option at first but was on a separate page. And the wording on the fine print was confusing me a bit. Thought they were being generous for once haha. I will edit me other post.

Fortunately I sold my Suite 10 few months ago, I'd be really frustrated if I had to pay for an upgrade for MPE

As someone who has fiddled but not committed to Ableton, can you share why you gave up on it?

Mostly because I didn't like Push2 integration and built quality.
From software side the suite had too many sounds that where canned and had to spend much time to organize them, also the browser always rescanned the library leading to performance issues.
Lack of MPE , lack of LFOs (Max4live had great LFO devices but they didn't integrate much with Push2)
Also there was no 16 level pitch although I'm sure they'll add the Akai Force superb 16 level level mode (pitch, level, filter at once)
Speaking of the Force (looking at videos) ,it has faster workflow ,especially the hybrid view modes (half pads launchpads, other drum/instruments) . On Push2 you had to jump between modes...
I prefer my MPC One,nice sounds, more simple, does the job, all-in-one device. Sure it misses lots of features but this is where the iPad can act as sound/fx module

PS. I mentioned only the downsides from my perspective ,no need to mention Live's great features and worth mentioning that the customer support is very fast , reflecting a real professional software company

The free upgrade deal is also if you are upgrading from older versions of Live (pre 10), with a 20% discount on whatever your previous upgrade price was.

  • Lot's of great updates to an already awesome DAW.

The upgrade price is less than what I paid in June 2019 to upgrade to 10. I usually hold off for a sale before upgrading, so it seems like this 20% intro discount is a pretty good one.

  • im very excited about this. The whole comping and multiple takes thing is why ive still been using protools for all my vocal / instrument recording. Ive been asking ableton to add this for probably 10 years or so now. Cant wait, and will gladly pay for the upgrade. Some other great. features included as well!

Noticed the 'JUMP' feature on the improved Scenes... That's it.
Seems this is the best Ableton update ever... I'm sold.. And looks like Maschine’s Lock feature can be done like a breeze... too.
    Mine..

Versions 1 to 7 all had one year between them. 7 to 8 was two years and 8 to 9 four years.

    That’s a pretty cool feature

  • Hello everyone ! Hope I don't sound too "basic" or newbie lobby, but I just need a clear explanation regarding installing Live 11 on a machine where I already have Live 10 Suite installed.

Should I install first Live 11...and after uninstall Live 10? ( I do not want to keep both versions).

Will I have to reinstall all my plugins? ( I so much don't want to do that...). I am using macOS .

  • You should install and run Live 11, then uninstall Live 10 for the easiest transition.

  • Live 11 looks amazing...
But why is it that many demonstrators of the software keep using plug in instruments etc?
With amazing features are the included instruments somewhat below par?
Thus relying on things like NI Kontakt libraries which are very diverse and awesome....
    Opinions?

For me, I have some third-party plug-ins out of preference. Best examples are SuperMassive, a great free delay. Cthulhu is a great arpeggiator.

But I would say that the "stock" features in Ableton are almost all universally very, very good. For example, I love the grand piano. You can spend hundreds of dollars on different pianos, but the stock one works great for me.

TL;DR: Stock Ableton can deliver fantastic results. If you want variety, go for it!

  • What about my plugins? do i need to reinstall?

Someone mentioned that option inside Live...automatic updates! Would that feature replace Live 10 with 11?

Usually a major version update will rescan them all, but you won’t need to reinstall them.

I appreciate! So i should just uninstall Live 10 afterwards and third party plugins will be available in 11. I suppose when uninsstalling live 10..the plugin folder stays intact...> @michael_m said:

If I remember correctly, when you install a new version the installer asks if you want to install alongside or in place of any previous version it detects. Choose to install in place of the previous version then you should be good.

Once the new version is installed just check to see if there’s an old version that you need to uninstall.

  • i see...that is available when update in within the same version...v.10.01.29 to v10.01.30 for ex. thanks a lot

Sorry, I don’t remember. It’s been a really long time since I last installed it on a Windows machine.

(I’m assuming you’re using Windows as there are references to uninstallers)

it only took them like 10 years. ^^

It’s one reason why I love iOS.. developers are ‘forthcoming’...

    well, it’s only Veek’s Atom 2 that’s ‘trying’ us.. hopefully anyday now..☺️

No uninstall required then - just update and answer the prompts.

  • Thank you Michael!

  • You’re welcome!

  • If you want to take advantage of the pre-release 20% off offer for Live 11, I would move quickly now that the release candidate is being beta tested.

  • Yup. Also, there's no charge until it ships anyway, so no reason to wait if you're going to bite.
