Yeah, me too.
I hereby boycott any and all monophonic "multi polyphonic expression" synths. Fucking ridiculous.
Hey guys, I've got a good idea! I'm gonna make a bicycle that only has one wheel. What's that? You say that's called a unicycle? Non-sense! Anything that has at least one wheel is considered a unicycle. Everyone knows that! So, c'mon down and get your one wheel bicycle!!!
PS. excellent video, as always @Gavinski
I don't understand this position at all. Given that people are going to continue to make monophonic synths, wouldn't you rather have ones that provide more expressive capabilities, ideally using the same technology and techniques that already exist for polyphonic expression?
I'm all for expressive capabilities being added to more synths. However, aftertouch, modwheel, and pitchbend effects that only route to one midi channel, are by definition not MPE. Call it monophonic expression (ME). Do not call a synth MPE if it doesn't have polyphony after touch, modwheel, and pitch bend capability. That pisses me off. It literally doesn't make sense. My trumpet has aftertouch capability, should I start calling that MPE too? MPE =/ expressive. MPE = multi polyphonic expression. My trombone has excellent pitchbend capability, I guess that's an MPE instrument too!
MPE does not have a monopoly on aftertouch, modwheel, and pitchbend effects. MPE is not when a synth has those things. Midi keyboards have had all of these for DECADES. MPE keyboards are not special because they can do those things. They're special because they can do all of those things independently on 16 different midi channels. It's just a disgusting misuse of the word.
MPE is a meaningless buzz word in iOs land. A marketing gimmick
It does sound really great.
Wow, man... why so angry?
They don't even say it's an MPE synth
They do mention "support for MPE Controllers (Single Channel)"
So your beef is against it being called MPE, and not about the feature itself? I don’t quite get it.
Sad People - Unrandy Sadman
Sad people got no reason
Sad people got no reason
Sad people got no reason
To smile
They got little issues
With little apps
And they walk around
Like they're holding crap
They got little phones
And shitty apps
They have no purpose
Without their specific features
Well, I don't want no sad people
Don't want no sad people
Don't want no sad people
'Round here
sad people are just the same
As you and I
All men are touchscreen brothers
Until the day they don't get the features they want
Sad people got nobody
Sad people got nobody
Sad people got nobody
Oh these apps that bring no joy
They got little baby issues
And they stand with a slump
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say…new features may come
If you, email the developer
