Ableton Link not working across devices since update?

I have troubleshot this issue quite a bit.... In standalone, I can't seem to get my iPads to sync to Ableton Link, UNLESS they are connected to the app Link to MIDI. Then everything works. What is going on?! Shouldn't be that I have to connect to another app on each iPad. Weird stuff.... Anybody else?

Is Ableton Link working between two devices for you?

  • Some apps sync better than others for me. Sometimes I find I need to put apps in the same host on both pads, so like both iPads running AUM and then hosting different apps on each etc. But yah, I find it is pretty messy now.

  • Well, maybe it's the apps I used. Going to have to try a few combinations when I get home. I utilize a little device called the Missing Link by Circuit Happy to coordinate my tempos on hardware & software using one knob, so it is vital that they work with it.

    Anyone else having issues?

  • Works perfectly here.

  • It's not only you. Apple have introduced a bunch of new privacy-related restrictions in the networking subsystem in iOS 14, and developers have to go through various hoops to make Ableton Link work again (reliably) in their apps. This definitely applies when app updates (or new apps) are shipped, but probably also to existing apps.

Thank you! Just freaked me out since everything was running so smoothly and in lockstep.... Then tragedy: so hoping developers all update their Ableton Link issues soon!

My poor Duet (iPad as a desktop monitor) seems to have died recently. :( Anything related to Apple / Bonjour / iTunes / Windows seems so hooped. Poor devs!

  • Seem I cannot connect between 2 devices or my PC (Live, Machine), since the last ios update.
