OT: midnight EST : Aesop Rock - Spirit world field guide

edited November 2020 in Other

are you guys ready for this release!!!
i can tell you it is the most sophisticated record aesop has dropped to date. the two singles “ the gates” and “pizza alley” are no where near the best jams this recording has to offer, and yet they are amazers!
if you know aesop rock you know this is going to be insane, for those who are unfamiliar i highly suggest giving this album a chance.
it’s hiphop but for those who don’t listen to hiphop i think will look at this and aesops other projects different, they are a league / category of their own, and i urge you to give it an honest listen 😎

if nothing else, just read the lyrics to this album, aesop has been reconized as being the most complicated wordsmith perhaps to ever live , with more original words per song than most artists use in their entire careers (the artists with a wider vocabulary than shakespear) he has been praised for his ability to paint a picture that is layers deep with meaning and imagery.
over 7000 words per song
i posted a video about this at the bottom under the images . images for hype 🤩

  • none shall pass
    “ Flash that buttery gold
Jittery zeitgeist, wither by the watering hole, what a patrol
What are we to Heart Huckabee, art fuckery suddenly
Not enough young in his lung for the water wings
Colorfully vulgar poacher, out of mulch
Like, "I'mma pull the pulse out a soldier and bolt"
Fine, sign of the time we elapse
When a primate climb up a spine and attach
Eye for an eye, but the bog life swamps and vines
They get a rise out of frogs and flies
So when a dogfight's hog-tied prize sort of costs a life
The mouths water on a fork and knife
    And the allure isn't right
No score on a war-torn beach
Where the cash cow's actually beef
Blood turns wine when it leak for police
    Like, "That's not a riot; it's a feast, let's eat!"”

  • I love Aesop Rock. Anticipating this release as well. Almost eveyrhting from rhymesayers has been dope.

My dad is a bluegrass musician so I always played instruments like the guitar, mandolin, banjo etc. I grew up in The streets tho, like literally in a crip neighborhood, took to hip hop at age 10. Been rapping forever, however I listen to everything and can play everything from Waylon to Fleetwood Mac to the band to cradle of filth to Dave Matthews then Put in some black thought to mos def and so on. Haha glad to know I’m not the only one who can’t pick a genre. Haha

that’s wild man! what a past!
do you have any thing streaming?

ya i never pick a genre it’s all about talent, mood and what catches my attention. the world of music is too massive to limit it to one kind, those that do are missing out on so much life

  • Yo, thanks for the heads up on this! Can't remember the last time I bought an album on release day.

Labor Days remains my favorite hip hop album of all time 19 years later, and way more relevant to my life now than it was when it came out and I was in college.

I kinda hate how much the discussion of Aesop Rock revolves around the vocabulary... Aes is a great lyricist, rapper, and producer. Yeah, his songs have a lot of words in them, but fans prop that up as empirical evidence that he's great, which is bogus, and I think it turns a lot of folks off thinking it's music for pretentious hipsters and snobs. Which, I mean, it is, but not us only.

  • Labor Days is an amazing album. I don't know that he'll ever top that. Though None Shall Pass comes close.

That was a great period. El-P, Aesop Rock, Canibal Ox, Company Flow, Mr Lif, Antipop Consortium, Mike Ladd...

i hardly buy on release date myself unless it’s aesop, his malibu ken album was the last album i bought on release prior to this one. labor days is so good, i went to a couple shows on that tour and it is always going to be a fav!

Labor days is my favourite also and as you say that period had so many great artists and albums. Was bit obsessed with def jux and my dj sets also heavily featured their releases and then home to chill with a def jux album post gig.
