OT: Can you download Logic Pro on High Sierra
It looks like Apple no longer allows Logic Pro to be purchased on High Sierra. (Only Catalina -- which I will not be installing due to compatibility issues).
Someone told me that one could purchase Logic Pro on Catalina and then go to the App Store on a High Sierra machine and download the last version that was compatible with High Sierra (which was a version that was still available last spring).
Is there anyone here that could confirm that this is true. I know that for some apps (like GarageBand on iOS) it isn't possible to download older compatible version while it is possible for others.
Thanks.

I’m about to buy Logic Pro and I’m wondering the same about running it on Mojave. I’ll let you know. I’m going to buy it anyway as I might as well make my current Mac Mini still useful, and it’s one of reasons I’m getting a new M1 Mac. I won’t check on High Sierra as that’s going to take like an hour to install on a separate partition. I will be buying it on Catalina and downloading on Mojave though as I already have a Mojave partition for 32 bit apps.
Not the latest version. Apple might let you download a version that will run on your OS but don’t take my word for it, definitely try Apple’s support section on their website
@espiegel123 Have you tried via the "Purchased" list?
Great. Please let me know if that works. I am pretty sure that the same version that runs on Mojave runs on High Sierra. If purchasing on Catalina allows you to download the version that runs on Mojave that probably means it will work to download the High Sierra compatible version.
I don't own it -- so, it won't show up there. I am trying to find out if purchasing it will result in my being able to download the version that works with High Sierra -- I don't want to purchase (which means creating a Catalina boot disk for temporary use) if I won't be able to use it on my High Sierra machine.
I've always been able to download older versions using the purchased list, no different from the iOS AppStore. (Except if the app completely disappeared from the store).
It’s going to be a delay, but I’ll have the answer eventually. Likely in the next week hopefully.
I’m trying to contact my brother to buy the Pro apps bundle and send me the codes. It says it can take 1-3 business days to email the codes it seems. He is education staff, so if they do the random audit he’ll be fine. I however have nothing to do with education at the moment. I mean it’s 199 USD for Logic Pro by itself, or if education you can get a bundle 199 USD for Logic Pro, Mainstage, Final Cut Pro, Compressor, and Motion. If I can get that it’s a no brainer. It seems they work via Family Sharing too if he ever gets a Mac newer than 2008.
Apple is still doing the free trial for Logic. I wonder if you could try installing it on your machine via that to try it out. https://www.apple.com/logic-pro/
I have the free trial -- the one from April. But since that time they changed the requirements to Catalina (used to be Sierra and above). The free trial doesn't have a purchase option -- it just tells you to go to the store to buy Logic Pro.
There are some apps in the iOS app store (I believe that GarageBand is one but am not 100% certain) where it isn't possible to re-download an old version from the purchased items list. There aren't many where this happens but there are some.
I suppose they have you re-download the entire thing instead of updating the demo version to the licensed version. I had to install High Sierra on and older laptop and finding how to get the installer was a pain.
It may not be helpful but I have several Macs with different versions of Logic on each. The one that has High Sierra is stuck with Logic 10.5 and the previous version of Mainstage until I upgrade it to Catalina. On my newer Mac mini with Catalina I just updated yesterday to the newest Logic and Mainstage. I can’t update GarageBand until I update to Big Sur but I’m thinking about deleting GB anyway to save space because I never use it.
I've seen that it is possible . there's a work around. . something about the app store
i'll see if i can find it.
Think it has to be with Mojave.
So, I got my code and applied it on Catalina. When I switch to the Mojave partition it asks me if I want to download a previous version and then is immediately followed by “cannot complete your purchase” after selecting to do so. There is something else wrong as I cannot download some other apps from the App Store as well, though some advise the same error and others have no error. I’m doing these security patches, etc. I’ll let you know if it starts downloading the older version with code applied on Mojave.
When you applied the code in the Catalina app store, did you download a copy of the current version to the Catalina partition? If not, I wonder if that might be relevant to later downloading on a different OS install.
On Mojave, are you downloading from the purchased apps list?
Sorry for the OT, but I didn't think it was worthy of a separate thread. There are reports of Big Sur bricking some older 2013-2014 MacBook Pros

https://www.macrumors.com/2020/11/15/macos-big-sur-update-bricking-some-macbook-pros/
Is that the computer equivalent of ‘the Darwin awards’?
EDIT that should be 'computer owner', I'm not praising forced obsolescence.
Thanks for the reminder to do a fullbackup..been a while
Also,I miss OS Tiger!
Yes, it was some temporary issue like I thought. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was related to switching partitions as that always advises me “there was a problem with iCloud” everything I go from Catalina to Mojave.
So, the quick version is I got the codes, applied on Catalina, downloaded on Catalina, and when moving to Mojave partition it advised me if I would like to download the last compatible version. It is currently working as we both hoped.
I mostly wanted to keep Mojave around just in case I find some 32 bit app to use. That is not likely as this 2012 Mac Mini is already mostly on Catalina and can’t install anything later, and I have a new M1 Mac that will never install anything earlier than Big Sur.
In think I am staying put on Mojave and logic 10.5 on my 2012 mbp. I don’t have the money to buy another Mac anytime soon. Maybe when gigs return someday... I’m also not terribly excited about any new mac, I don’t love the forced obscelence and landfill technology approach Apple has been taking ($200 for 8 more gigs of non serviceable ram? An arm and a leg for a larger ssd that also can’t be serviced or upgraded? No thanks).
I wish I didn’t find windows so painful to use, or that Linux was more viable for music. Until then, Mojave and this mbp are working fine, so is logic 10.5.
