ZC1 pads and presets in ZenBeats iOS Unlock V2 just sound thin to me compared to other iOS plugins

I've been deeply exploring the ZC1 presets available in ZenBeats iOS Unlock V2.

I'm very interested in ZC1 because I'm thinking of getting the Fantom 8 workstation which shares the same ZenCore engine. But I just get this impression that something in the sounds - both when I try out ZC1 - or even when I listen to the many demos of FANTOM platform 8 on YouTube - that theres something lacking when compared - either to other workstations like KHRONOS or MOTIF - or even simply when for example I loaded up ZEEON and tried some pads on there.

Instantly with ZEEON there was this fullness - that ive heard with KHRONOS that seems lacking in ZC1.

Now in part sometimes its the added on FX quality - reverbs choruses delays etc that can make a synth patch sound. much richer - but dunno.

I've also read online reports that many find the ZenCore and FANTOM sound thin compared to competitors.

ZC1 isnt a true circuit emulation as I understand it - but something hybrid so maybe the compromises in the design of Zencore are the reason for this?

See the thing is.... I REALLY would like what FANTOM offers due to the clip based sequencing and al the hardware on it which seems really inspiring in workflow aspects but just never seem sold on the sounds ive heard.

plus there seems a kind of old-fashioned-ness to ZC1. clearly due to the fact that in essence its trying to emulate all of ROLANDS back catalogue!

  • For this reason I suspect I'm more likely to use ZenBeats as one of the fewiOS DAWS which support an Ableton way of working -but also host AUv3 plugins. But just not bother With ZC1 and use it to host my own AUv3 instruments instead.
