"Disco in the Bardo"

edited November 2020 in Creations

Experimental workout with my new toys:

DrumComputer (this is the one for inspiring drum tracks)
Gauss Field (the looper I've been waiting for... similar to Kosmonaut... Bram being the Boss)
GeoSwam instruments (to feel like you can play that stuff)
Koshiba (serious rhythmic filtering)

Money well spent.

Comments

  • I like the classical ethnic instrument ( is that a bass or some sort of string/organ)...reminds me of "seeding the clouds" by Tuxedomoon

  • Great stuff, McD.

It's the GeoOboe... sounds very "snake charmer-ish" with MPE glides.
NOTE: It doesn't come in until about 1:15.

  • Cool stuff @McD

I’m going to have a look at this Gauss Field thing. What can it do that Kosmonaut and say.. Enso can’t?

  • Don't know about disco but that was excellent. Nice track!

I liked the rhyme with Bardo... it’s Muzak for the Bardo but with a BPM of 20 I liked the Disco joke.

Well, it’s a Brambos joint designed with input from Hainbach. Watch the Gavinski YouTube videos and you’ll see it’s truly magical in conception and solid in execution like Bram’s other work. It slices the audio recordings and applies time stretching and other magical transformations. Turn knobs until something emerges from the controlled chaos. The input on this track was my guitar. I ended up with this loop and I started to throw in other recent and unexplored apps as indicated above. There’s a lot of them when I decided to blow some Oboe over the top. I generally like to have my voice show up but I’m getting over it and learning that I made the collage and my ears told me what to edit... that’s playing too.

I figured it was tongue in cheek, but you never know on the Internet. I did enjoy the track (and the BPM was refreshing).

  • Oboe is nice. Have you tried the clarinet yet? I don't have any of them, but will probably grab the bundle at some point.

Yes. For the clarinet (which isn't used here but Violin and Cello and a very soft Flute get a spin) I had to turn off all vibrato and change the MIDI controller UI mode to keyboard. Glissando's and pitch bends on clarinet are restricted to Dixieland only (Pete Fountain) in my style guide.

So, I have all 6 GeoSWAM instruments and they are uniformly excellent. I should work on
a small ensemble piece using all 6 in a serious style (non-jazz inflections). Still, $90 for the set
'cause I thought I space it out over months. They were too good.

We aim to bring comfort (and visions of collapsing empires).

  • I also made another one today that's darker yet...

"Debasing the Moderator"... epic coarsening of the discourse before jetting to the golf course without remorse.

  • Very Weimar Republic. Like the SWAMs.

Isn't that the country of dogs? You probably get the joke but no one else would.
I have 2 other versions... No SWAM and All SWAM.

  • What’s with the Weimeraneround @McD?

Dog chasing it's tail... film at 11.
    Man bites dog... fake news.
