  • If it’s on sale and you like synths, go for it! It still works and it has a sound all its own.

  • Keep in mind it is the digital Prophet VS and not the iconic analogue Prophet 5. If you are interested in synths of that vintage then by all means go for it, but I would not consider it essential - it sounds rather thin to me and doesn’t have anything that some other synth in your collection can’t do.

  • Thanks. Good to know.

This is why I don't have it. If it were Arturia's version of the Prophet 5 it would have been one of the first things I bought (and one of my most used). As it is, although I love the iSEM, and have the iMini even though I have the Model D, I still haven't bought the iProphet

  • In my opinion, iProphet sounds sterile. For the same US$10, you can get some really spectacular synths: Zeeon, Factory (on sale now), Aparillo (on sale now).

Arturia, if you're listening: your Prophet-V synth would be an instant buy for me.

    Agreed wholeheartedly.

While they're at it could they port the Easel from V Collection too?

  • If you have iWAVESTATION you already have most of the Prophet VS apart from the resonant filter.

iWavestation also has a filter with resonance (unlike the hardware).
I agree, iWavestation (with all Prophet VS waves and more) is way better than buggy iProphet.

    Good point

  • I've spent some time over the last days after @espiegel123 drew my attention back to Korg's Odyssei app and hinting at a few substantial differences between Zeeon and Odyssei.

Now, after doing some sound design side by side with U-he's Repro-5 synth, I have to say that the Odyssei is a great candidate to get your Prophet 5 sounds!
Not everything is possible, some synced sounds and resonant filter pitch tricks don't sound exactly the same but I'm sure that in 9 out of 10 Prophet 5 preset you won't even notice the difference. The full, warm, silky and omnipresent character of the P5 is definitely there.
So far this is my best bet on iOS, good enough that I'm only missing an AUv3 build now.

Factory preset 053 agrees with you ;)
I would think iMonoPoly is a good candidate too, with its SSM filters. Haven’t compared myself.

  • I’m a big fan of Arturia, I have a Microbrute, a Beatstep, the V Collection and just bought Pigments a few days ago, but they just don’t really seem that interested in their IPad Apps these days. It has some decent sounds but it hasn’t t been updated in years. If I had to buy it again I definitely wouldn’t tbh

  • Thanks, saves me $5-10. I

You know, I’ve had the hardware for 20 years so I never noticed. Thanks!

It's a shame as they have a wide range of products that would port easily to iOS (in concept - I'm no coder, I just mean that they would work well with their layout and functionality).

Yeah, I’m guessing maybe they just have so much other stuff on their plate, like their line of hardware synths, drum machines, midi controllers , desktop software, etc, that IOS is very low priority and probably doesn’t generate enough money for them ,especially compared to their other products 🤷🏽‍♂️

  • Yeah, I'm sure that's the case. Compared to a desktop product, iOS apps are literally a fraction of the price. If they have coded them in something that's easy to port it's an added value with limited cost; if, as I suspect, they haven't, it's a from-the-ground-up rebuild. I don't blame them for not doing that!

I'm in the fence about this one. It has such bad reviews. Thoughts. Does it work? How does it sound?

    In 2017, sure.

  • I have no clue and little interest in how authentic iProphet sounds. It makes some nice noises and doesn’t seem to have too much timbral overlap with my more staple synth apps such as Zeeon and iSEM. IMO it’s worth having. The combination of 4 oscillators, 2 lfos, the 4 way vector control and that mod matrix is not too common in iOS synths.
