Organ app?

OK. I'm sure this is in the wrong place and I am sure that it has been answered several times before but I have searched near and far.

This band I am joining has a part in several songs that is a Bandoneon, not an organ. The only Bandoneon app I can find doesn't support midi. I would be happy to go with an organ, but it needs to be a really, really clean sounding organ.

I own a few apps already including "Music studio". I am using one of the Organs in there and I like it, but the singer of the band says it sounds a bit "Noisy". Any way....any help would mean a lot to me.

I have Garage band, but it doesn't seem to be working with AB anymore unless I am mistaken? Also, Sampletank looks really attractive, but I don't want to buy these expansion packs and not have any of them be what I want/need.

I REALLY hate that the app store doesn't have like a 2hr return policy or something. Finding demos of most things that are extensive can be cumbersome.

Any thoughts on Z3ta as a ROMpler? Any other suggestions? Thanks again.

  • Gallileo is what you want if you want the best organ app.

  • Thanks so much. This thing is looking pretty awesome. Most of the demos I find though are heavy on the stops or effects. Hopefully I can find one that shows me how "clean" it can get. As long as I can sell my bandmate, I'm a happy camper!

Galileo is capable of producing a very wide range of organ sounds, and to my ears also very convincing. Being synthesis based, and with some built in effects, it's also capable of more '"out there" kinda stuff. Also clean stuff obviously (you can adjust various "noise" levels, cut out the effects completely etc). Never heard a bandoneon, is that like a more "cleaner" sounding accordion or something?

  • Yes. It's like a cross between an accordion and an organ. The song I need it for isn't up and I hate to self promote, especially with this really old video, but if you go to the 1 minute mark it will give you an idea. Thanks!

  • Much as I am a fan of Galileo I'm not sure it can do that distinctive breathing of this concertina like instrument.

  • Another +1 for Galileo but an alternative might be a soundfont player (bs16i, etc) and hunt down a soundfont

I don't have my iPad with me (I'm at work), but it's possible that there might be one in either Sampletank, Thumbjam, or a soundfont that works with either BS-16i or Soundfont Pro...

Edit: I didn't notice that Ian and already suggested soundfonts....

  • +1 for Galileo.
But check out the organs from Markus Sigg as well.

  • I went through most factory preset, and it can't do that distinctive sound as @TedBPhx said. Some of the presets did shart out some distant relatives I guess :) Galileo Organ is the best organ sim/model on iOS no doubt. But a decent soundfont, or another multi sampled format inside random iOS app that does samples, would probably be needed to replicate that exact sound.

  • Again regarding Soundfonts:

If you have either BS-16i or Soundfont Pro, you can use this:

    http://soundfonts.homemusician.net/ethnic_soundfonts/198-bandoneon.html

    or more specifically:

    http://soundfonts.homemusician.net/files/198-Bandoneon.sfArk

If that isn't satisfactory, you can also try:

    http://www.sf2midi.com/soundfonts/file-detail/mi-bandoneon-sf2-2546.html

  • Galileo +1!!

  • Also - this, but pricey for more accordion-related material

    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hds-isound/id828068679?mt=8

  • The "Nice to be Your Friend Synth" has a Bandoneon in it, and is only $3.99.

  • Here is a sample of BS16i's bandoneon (with a smidge of reverb):

I would imagine that it's identical to the one in Nice To Be Your Friend as I believe they use the same soundfont library.
