Control pad lights on AKAI controllers from AUM/Mosaic/...

Does anybody have experience with how you can control the lights on the AKAI drum pads? I have an MPK mini and an LPD8 and I would like to use the pads to control loops. Is there a way to toggle on/off the pad backlights, maybe via MIDI message? It would be nice to use the lights to see if a loop is running or not...

(Also, I haven't actually checked if it does this automatically but can I link the arpeggiator tempo to AUM?)

Unfortunately the manual is just 5 pages long and doesn't contain anything of interest...

  • @dobbs I've a couple of suggestions:

    • Try digging on the web. Someone may have posted a full decoding.
    • If the devices have a configuration progam (PC or Mac), it may show what those inputs are.
    • As a guess, it may require sending the same MIDI message back to the device, possibly on a different channel (MIDI 1 maybe).
  • Hi, for the MPC Mini i found some hints further down the page on https://cycling74.com/forums/akai-mpk-mini-send-get-signals-to-light-buttons (post dates starting from February 2019)

Yeah the last 2 comments sound very promising. I will try once I get home and have some free time. Maybe the other AKAI controllers respond to the same notes. AKAI APC Key also looks nice and is rather cheap. maybe if I'll do more with LK and triggering clips in the future, it might be worth buying... The additional keyboard would also come in handy... ;)
