Recommend app for Reverb+Compression on a vocal mic?

When I'm streaming, my vocal mic is too quiet while I'm talking because I sing louder than I speak - Might you recommend a (ideally low-processor-overhead) AB/AUv3 that could handle this task?

  • What comes to mind would be Barkfilter's Tripleband preset. That would definitely help with the volume. I'm not sure if Reverb is needed but you can always turn on or off your favorite reverb presets while singing.

  • Magic Death Eye definitely does nice things to vocals. For reverb, you're going to want a quality reverb like the Toneboosters or Fab Filter ones

  • Can’t wait to hear if the new MixBox starts being an answer.

  • Wouldn't it make more sense to change the level quickly depending on whether you're singing or speaking? Maybe route your mic through two different channels in AUM (or in any DAW or mixer app) with different volume levels and switch channels when you sing or speak.

That can certainly do it, but so could any guitar-amp-rack multi-effect. An 8-effect unit for $40 = overkill.

Yes. But that is "one more thing to remember" and when doin' the one-man-show and talking in the middle of singing and such, it's not something I want to have to remember to do.

Does Barkfilter have a reverb section? I know it's a compressor, but don't see anything about it having "effects".

First, you can try RoughRider, it’s free and sidechain support :)

Expensive but great bundle : FabFilter Pro C-2 + Pro-R

A good all in one : MixBox CS (note it’s been released yesterday but looks really good at first sight, the desktop version received good opinions)

Roughrider has a sidechain? Who knew. Thanks! good suggestion. Now need to find a reverb that will play happy with it.

  • If I understand what you've written it sounds more like a bit of mic technique would work a bit more magic than anything else....if your levels are that extreme no compressor combo is make it that much better. IMHO. Before we talk plugins what sort of mic are you using? What are you streaming? Any examples out there?

It doesn’t. I mainly recommend it as a boost to volume levels. The app that I know has both in one is Modley by Klevgrand but it’s iPad only.

Blamsoft's Zero Reverb has served me well for years. It's free, so definitely worth checking out.

Basic issue is that my speaking is quieter than my singing. Of course Mic-technique is a reasonable 'solution' (as is having\switching between different presets)...Am intentionally using a simple SM58/dynamic so I can monitor off of a wedge instead of needing to wear headphones. The basic reason I'm trying to find a software answer is just because I am trying to come up with a "set it and forget it". Stream isn't yet at a point that I want to share what is happening just yet but slow and steady am getting there.

  • I would recommend getting a mixing board such as a Yamaha MG06XU/10XU, Souncraft Notepad FX series, Mackie Pro, or Behringer Xenyx FX series and throw a limiter on your signal chain. This way you can keep the volume on everything the same without having to fiddle with knobs. Just set up prior to the start.

  • @boberto ah cool. Picture is a bit clearer. This isn’t a sales pitch (totally independent), I ‘ve been playing with the MixBox app and if that is within your budget then I think it might do the job for you as an all in one strip. Just an option. If you want a software solution this would give you decent results without having to think it out too much.

  • @boberto not sure if you saw this. I haven't tried it, but maybe the answer you're looking for.
