  • Very nice yet again. @LinearLineman , can’t believe how productive you are. Takes me days / weeks to churn out one mediocre effort in which time you've produced enough quality tracks for a couple of LPs (in old money)

  • Thank you for listening @GeoTony. All my stuff is improvised, so you could say I am cheating. If I had to sit down and actually write these things.... well, frankly, it would never happen but if it did it sure wouldn’t take just a few hours.

Also, I use my original piano midi to generate the other instrument tracks (sometimes I add an additional lead line or, more rarely, two). That is an experimental process. Sometimes I accidentally call up an app while I am searching and that little serendipity gives me the sound I wouldn’t have found otherwise.

It’s a process that has organically evolved, since the whole iOS, desktop (or plugin) toolkit was unknown to me as a “compositional” mechanism.

I just got some interesting comments on Luminescence At Dawn, which actually point out some of the shortcomings of this technique. I will respond to those. Maybe you could check that out later. It will give a more complete picture of what I am doing. Thanks for the continued interest!

  • Sounds great! Love your piano playing. Your improv approach clearly works very well, and since it’s not strictly scripted, it’s like a snapshot of what was flowing through you at that time. Every performance would be slightly different and unique. I think this is something I should learn from. I spend far too long calculating and over-thinking things and chasing something that is always just slightly out of my grasp, instead of just relaxing and letting it come to me. I believe that’s improv.

    Nice work! 😃👍

  • Thanks, Spider. Improvisation makes short work of generating new material to mess with. Getting the perfectionism out of the way is key.

  • Beautiful piece @LinearLineman! I love these contemporary pieces. You could almost hear the soft voice of a “Lite 96.1” DJ as they end.

I’m a little jealous. I have good jazz chops on guitar, but very little keyboard technique and even less on the iPad kB. It sounds like a fun way to work.

  • @LinearLineman This is music playing at a romantic candlelight dinner, so relaxing.

  • @Intrepolicious, thanks for the continued listening and praise.
@Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr, what about guitar midi? Seems like that would work just as well.
@Pierre118, thanks. I should have made it longer so it would, at least, get to the second course😉
