Freezing Effectrix in Cubasis

For Effectrix users in Cubasis: have you been able to successfully freeze a track with Effectrix loaded as an insert effect in Cubasis? Last night I tried to freeze a track that had an audio file loaded on it and Effectrix in an insert slot. Cubasis just hung when I tried to Freeze the track, and after I canceled the process, Cubasis was unresponsive (I could get audio to play, but I could not interact with the app at all -- very strange). Perhaps it's because Effectrix needs a clock signal and Cubasis doesn't send one during Freezing?

Thanks.

  • I know I tested freezing a midi track (using Cubasis internal sounds) with Effectrix without issues. I know that doesn't help much, but I'll try it on an audio track as ASAP.

  • ^ Thanks! I'm going to try again during lunch to see if I can narrow things down.

Freezing an audio track worked fine here (tried both the "Effectrix" instance and the "Effectrix MIDI" instance under IAA insert effects). Not sure what's wrong. iOS version?

Edit: Just incase, since Cubase doesn't actually load up the IAA unit fully with the UI and all, tap the icon to switch to Effectrix, go back to Cubasis again (this will ensure no IAA gets stuck in the background, messing with things),

Edit: under Cubasis settings I do have midi clock sync out checked (blue).

  • @ChrisG thank you for taking the time. I tried both "Effectrix" and "Effectrix MIDI" and I'm able to reproduce the issue reliably (ha!). I've tried it several times, and several ways, including loading the project, removing Effectrix from Cubasis and then quitting Cubasis; loading Effectrix from the home screen and quitting it; then loading up Cubasis and inserting Effectrix back in.

I just tried using an empty project, into which i loaded one audio file on one audio track, and it failed. i loaded Effectrix as an insert effect, attempted to freeze the track, and Cubasis hung. :(

I'm on an iPad 4 with 32 GB, iOS 7.1.

Weird! The only difference, besides any settings in either app, is that I use an iPad Air. But that shouldn't really cause all this. Did you make sure that Cubasis sends out midi clock sync?

Also, in iPad/iOS settings app, privacy > microphone check that both apps have access to the mic. It's far fetched but..

Edit: I'll just throw up a screen grab from my Cubasis settings screen here. Check sample rates, bit depth etc. Hardware buffer is set to 256 in both Cubasis settings and Effectrix settings in my setup (so they match up)...

  • Thanks. I'll give looking at the settings a shot, but I've definitely got Cubasis sending MIDI clock sync, etc.

i would think that if others were having this problem, they would have posted, but maybe not. hopefully someone using an iPad different from the Air will chime in.

  • Yea. The only other factors I can think of is to disconnect any audio interface (just to rule that out), and also make sure Effectrix is the latest version.

  • Well, the good news is someone I know via twitter had the same issue on an iPad Air, so now I don't know what to think. I think I've found a work around to freezing, but it would be lovely if it worked consistently.

  • K so with the air it's the same hardware and software. Really weird. I'd probably try a hard reboot (hold down the power button and home button, past the shutdown slider, let go when you see the Apple logo again) just to make sure there's absolutely nothing running in the background messing with things. Hopefully someone else have had this issue and been able to solve it tho.

  • Pretty sure I tried those things, but I will try again this weekend.

I'm slowly coming to accept that these kinds of issues are just something I have to deal with/accept given the platform, and where the audio side is in terms of its evolution. That's why I'm so happy I found this forum, though -- for commiserating and solutions!
