Word of the Elementals (Continua, Ruismaker Noir, StepBud, RhythmBud)
This is the kind of "now that I've bought these things on Black Friday, better use them" tracks
I started in AUM with a self-designed patch in Continua being driven by a generative sequence around an Eminor 7 arpeggio: a rhythm pattern in RhytmBud is being triggered by StepBud, but the length in both is different so there is constant subtle musical variation (as well as some probability adjustments).
Then I improvised two other parts (one "chimes" or flute like and another the slide-guitar-like both being two other instances of Continua) using the Novation Launchpad Pro Mk3 in Note mode. I like this mode because I can set 4 different ways of scale display and I don't fall into pattern-playing like I tend to do on the piano keyboard.
Then I added a simple mutating drum pattern in Ruismaker Noir (using its own sequencer) and I recorded the bass guitar with my fretless in 4pockets Multitrack. The following step was record-enabling all the tracks and doing a sort of live mixing of the whole, since my CPU (I only have a basic iPad 7) was starting to spike.
I imported all these stems in Audio Evolution Mobile and recreated the reverb send (that is the only track I did not record in AUM because if you do want to chop and edit freely you might hit some tails from other parts). By the way, I used apeSoft's Reverb for a change, it's quite nice if you find the right modulation setting that doesn't go crazy yet still brings it to life.
The next part was adding an acoustic guitar, I played the most basic arpeggios in the key (and a simple melody line), but since the rest of the texture was quite full they worked good enough. Finally I added a short portamento solo on the Volca Keys and an additional drum pattern in that section using some custom samples in my Novation Circuit. All these were recorded straight into AEM.
On almost every track I used Magic Death Eye, the vanilla version and the EQ from AEM. The video is made on the PC with a free software called AstroFox which has some sound-reactive modules.

Where’s the Eminor 7 app in the store? I haven’t been able to find it? 😉
Looking forward to listening
And i'm intrigued with that bass guitar app. Does it detune with time?
Awesome track, @Aletheia. Love the blend of electronic and acoustic/electric
Nice track Aletheia.
A deep evolving soundscape. Nicely done!
Oh, you're right, it's much less famous than the C F G app Thanks for listening!
Absolutely, it doesn't just have 3D touch, it also has 3D slap, 3D pick, 3D scrape...unbelievable )
Glad you liked it, it's a style I'm building to at the moment. I'm also interested in how other instruments blend with electronic, like the pan flute.
Thank you!
Much appreciate!
I miss that 3D interfacing. When the pandemic hit, I used my family share so my nephew could make better use of it
Deeply interested in the pan flute experiments
@Aletheia really good track. The beginning up until the bass comes in kind of reminded me of The Fallen Interlude by blink-182 on their self titled. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
The acoustic sounds so clear. I love the way it ends.
The other chords are IAPs.
Thanks, that's quite an unexpecting reference, I gotta check that track 😁
I have a Fender budget acoustic but a good condenser mic and I use a Zoom F8 which I kept from my film sound recording era as it can act as a USB multitrack interface (including with the iPad) and it has really good preamps.
And new strings are subscription based
@Aletheia I liked this. Took me on a nice journey. The purchases have paid off. Continua is a nice synth. It is very accessible and fun to tweak.
I'm glad you did! It really does, I was hesitating since I have that you-know-which-app-that-can-do-anything and I know my way around it so in theory I could recreate the workflow. But at the same time it's nice to have everything ready to build and use what it's best at instead of being blocked by too many possibilities.
I think that one has the best output when he is able to use a synth thoroughly and completely and only then move on to modular if he really wants something totally outside the capabilities of the "ready-made" ones.
So I have made a sort of a challenge to myself that whenever I get something new to first know it thoroughly before moving on. It has worked great so far.
Lol. I was sitting here staring into space and asking myself that very question. I need some coffee.
Good thing I didn't write something like "Secondary dominant" because who knows what kind of apps one would have looked for
found this from a while ago .. awesome work @Aletheia done any more like this?
