  • @espiegel123 Gotcha. I managed to get pretty close a while ago so I’ll see if I can find the patch. I think I used a square or pulse in place of the saw. Definitely a bit of resonance

It’s funny how it is sometimes trickier to match such a simple sound. I have to imagine he was a Chic Corea and Jan Hammer fan. Shaun Martin’s soloing is so great. I can’t believe I wasn’t hep to him till now.

  • You can definitely mock some of that with pitch bend, but most pitch bend wheels will not work out so well for you.

I’d say you need a different kind of pitch bend to get more travel out of it. Maybe something like Expressive E Touché perhaps? Maybe get busy making your own with an Arduino, some sensors that can measure what works, and an actual whammy tied to it. That way you might be able to get closer to the movement of the whammy. That would be quite a process and may not even work well.

@espiegel123 Definitely. I mentioned it in another thread but only recently did I get a Chameleon patch I'm happy with.

Here's what I've got in software for the Thing of Gold solo. Still needs a bit of work on the vibrato and some other tweaks but overall it's pretty close. You were right about the saw. I found that keyboard tracking on the filter, some resonance, and a bit of pulse were key features of the sound. Tweaking the sustain of the filter envelope helps put in (or take out) just a bit of edge, which I suspect he modifies in some parts.

I'd be interested to hear any tweaks you might have

@espiegel123 Very welcome! With a bit less attack yours reminds me of this other solo (at around 3:10):

Immigrance will be tonight’s listening adventure.

  • @espiegel123 Enjoy! It's definitely a departure from some of the earlier stuff (which I enjoy more). There are a few gems though.
