MicSwap pro

I see MicSwap pro is on sale again. I have the “non pro” version with a few IAP’s. But, my question is:

MicSwap pro (and “non pro”) have studio environments, do you know if you can use this to create a virtual studio room, similar to what the ocean way plugin does for uad? I believe it’s just convolution but having specific studio spaces is a niche within that and meant to be used 100% wet to put you in the environment rather than just as a send that is blended in. Do the studio spaces in MicSwap work this way? MicSwap also models the mics used as part of the sound, which is different than spaces recorded just for the space itself, and this is what the ocean way plugin does.

The main function that I want, and have used the uad ocean way demo for a few times, is to take close miked drums from a session where everyone was playing in the same room, therefore no room mics specific to drums, and create a “room” track from the close mic blend. If MicSwap pro can do it, I think I may get it and use it with studiomux to achieve the same. I have imported tracks from the computer into MicSwap before to do mic modeling and then reimport them to the computer, but now that I have studiomux working it would be even easier.

I could get a studio iap in the MicSwap I have but it would be easier just to get pro and have everything.

Thanks, hopefully the question makes sense.

This is the ocean way plugin if context helps:

And I did it on this mix with the drums, for both overheads and room if I remember correctly.

Police State is the song, it should be what comes up as the first thing in the page.

Thanks!

  • @mrufino1 To my knowledge and experimentation with the NON pro version MicSwap models the microphone and uses a separate (impulse response) for the room.

I experimented with something similar to what @Jamie_Mallender did in this video except instead of a separate room recorded sample and (and drum set up) I ran each of the individual close mic'ed drums into one bus with Micswap attached.

Thanks. So essentially it’s “recording” you with that mic in that room, correct? That’s what I’m looking for.

  • I bought it and I look forward to trying it on a mix later.
