Does roli noise still have AU3support?

I can’t find it in AUM

Comments

  • It does Hans, and opens for me no problem as AUv3 in AUM - maybe try a reinstall? @Blue_Mangoo

  • Roli Noise no longer works on my 12.9” Pro but does still work on my backup 10.5” Pro. AU or standalone.

Roli says they are aware of the problem, but it would be great if others with the issue would contact them to encourage them to finally update Noise after years :)

    Thank you ;)

  • They don’t even have Seaboard blocks in stock on their own website and haven’t for months, from what I have heard, I somehow doubt this is a company that is going to update Noise, but I hope to be proved wrong.

Roli is 'famous' about not updating essential software/firmware. It decided to sell all my Roli hardware, although sometimes I miss the Blocks. Their support is really bad. (look at the Roli forum, you will see why.....)

I see. I’m sorry to hear that.

They've clearly had an awful pandemic and seem to have had to dig in and focus on key projects in their roadmap, but they did manage to get Equator 2 out the door, and it's been an absolute triumph. Their hardware and iOS operations seem very focussed around the Lumi at the moment, which is marginal to the needs of most of us here but makes sense as they try to build the base for that during the gifting season. Noise needs updating anyway to take advantage of the new Equator engine, which I'd expect to happen once they start putting out add-on soundpacks for it, given that's their actual revenue stream on iOS. They have a lot of really smart, dedicated people and there's still nobody really doing what they do in either the MPE hardware consumer space (aside from Artiphon, who are targeting precisely those users the Seaboards will never reach), and nobody to touch them in the MPE synth space. But I do wish they'd allow a mod to pop a head round the door of the forum for ten minutes and release the posts that have been piling up for seven months.

The problems at Roli have been going on since well before the pandemic. But yes, hard to beat their synths for MPE, that’s for sure.

Hardware manufacturing and software development are two very different things. It is possible for a company to be struggling on the hardware side but doing ok on the software side...or they may be shifting the focus in the hardware side. It is hard to know what it bodes.

  • For what it’s worth, this is exactly what they said:

“We are definitely keenly aware of the NOISE issues and are hoping to be able to resolve at least some of them soon.”

I feel like this says they are hoping to do the minor amount of work it takes to make Noise functional on all devices again but aren’t about to do much more anytime soon. The key words though are “hoping” and “soon” so we shall see. I would have completely given up on them a long time ago too if the seaboard wasn’t such an incredibly unique and inspiring device.

Is it an iOS 14 issue? Mine is working fine as AU with 13

I think it is more of a device issue as it does work on my 10.5” Pro that I use for work and that’s on 14.2. It doesn’t work on my main 12.9” Pro.

  • @marmakin, I just opened it, no problem, in Cubasis 3 on myb12.9 Pro2. ?

  • It works on my 12.9 inch 3rd gen Pro. Wow, what is going on here....

  • edited December 2020

Wow I’m so confused. The standalone doesn’t open at all and instacrashes on my 12.9 3rd gen 2018 Pro. I first noticed the issue on 14.2 and it remains there on 14.3.

Roli seemed to acknowledge it which made me think it wasn’t just me… I don’t get it!!?

  • Both standalone and AU3 are working fine on my gen1 12.9" ipad Pro (OS 14.2).

I sold my Block after an update completely messed up loading layouts from the dashboard.

Although tbh i felt burned by them already, I was sold on the block as a fun way for amateurs to make music on ipad but true ios support never materialised and they are anyway quite finicky to work with (i could never get a really consistent velocity response).

Things appear ok running under 14.2 on iPad Pro 2018 model in Drambo and AUM
FWIW, i had to reinstall Noise since i haven’t used it in a while, but this thread reminded me of how good the sounds were.

  • UPDATE: A full uninstall and reinstall fixed it!!!!

I’m always so hesitant to uninstall and lose data when there’s an issue but seeing that Noise still worked on @Gavinski ’s same exact iPad and @echoopera ’s mention of needing to reinstall convinced me to give it a shot.

Although this is clearly a half baked unsupported app...the sounds really are so good. Plus all of the SWAM packs I bought for it long ago that can only be used in standalone.

THANK YOU everyone for being willing to test on your devices and report back 😀😀😀

  • I realize this is an old post, but I recently got a new iPad Pro and for some reason decided to try and see if noise would load… And lo and behold it did. I haven’t tried the standalone, but both AUM and Logic Pro seem to work fine. It appears to not work at first, but closing the UI and reopening seems to fix it, everything works, and all my packs are there! In logic there seems to be a further glitch where recalling a project screws the pitch During playback. But I found that freezing the track first before closing works. For what it’s worth my old third generation iPad Pro works fine as well. Might not be worth a hassle for some of you, but I love these sounds, they are very dynamic and the MPE is flawless.

I bought all the noise packs back in the day. They're handy enough if you've got a seaboard or another mpe keyboard, but the paid packs, given they are not very tweakable, are ridiculously overpriced imo. I suppose it depends on taste, but I find there are only a few handfuls of really quality presets among all the packs. But yes, given that so many 'mpe' apps have hardly any mpe presets, these are still an easy go-to for ready-made mpe sounds which are expressive right out of the box.

  • I hear ya, but for those of us who bought in and haven’t been able to use those sounds for years… It’s nice to have them back. I do have a seaboard but as of now I have not been able to find an easy way to get audio (equator) from my MacBook to my iPad, which is where I prefer to work because that’s where the majority of my sounds live. It seems I’m always solving problems rather than making music.
